I don't know that I'd call the RNG of the secret missions or the "DLC selling difficulty traps" personal issues but yes, in regards to the story that's certainly something that is preference. TotA has always been my favourite Tales game and I don't really remember anything about the story in Vesperia (though you are correct, Yuri's a decent MC) but maybe fondness will come back.
This game is a joke in terms of difficulty throughout the entire game. I have no idea what "pacing" you're referring to. You guys talk like every boss must be just slightly more difficult than the last one but there are no games that work this way. Every game will have a boss along the way that is considered a step-up. This is not bad design. You guys make up this rule about "difficulty pacing" that no developer ever actually follows and then get annoyed when a game doesn't follow it. Games don't have to follow your made-up rules.
>because of the desire to sell the day 1 DLC that powered up the characters but even remembering it this ♥♥♥♥'s rough.
I purposely didn't use any of that and the game difficulty was still a joke. Please stop pretending it's otherwise.
>I don't remember the Secret Mission mechanic fondly but again, this ♥♥♥♥'s REALLY rough with how RNG based a bunch of them are.
This is a completely optional task that you don't ever have to do. It's not "bad design" if you forced yourself to do them anyway. And, yes, some are random but almost all of them are doable on the first try.
>Overall, the newer games have far superior combat.
It would be very weird if they didn't. But, in the end, it's an RPG with small action elements...I don't expect God-of-War levels of combat quality here.

>ToV is like in the top 3 for best tales games and yuri is easily one of the best MC's we've ever had
Frankly, he's about as good as any RPG character we've had in recent times. The interactions between the party members is about as good as any game in this genre...I'm usually expecting stiff and weird conversations that never seem natural in games like this.

>I don't know that I'd call the RNG of the secret missions or the "DLC selling difficulty traps" personal issues
Only someone who has been obsessing about this game from the start would ever care about this "DLC selling" nonsense. Especially since it's a crackpot theory with no evidence and is the kind of thing you see people believing because it got repeated a lot and for no other reason. The fact that you think this is 100% true with no wavering shows there's clearly something more here than just analyzing the game. You brought baggage.
>TotA has always been my favourite Tales game and I don't really remember anything about the story in Vesperia
Vesperia's story is as cliched as they come. There's nothing memorable or unique about any of it. It's the characters and their interactions that stand out and, thankfully, the game has more of that than main plot. It makes the laughable cliched plot much more bareable, especially with the characters sometimes making fun or questioning the tropes themselves.
I think someone that takes the time you have to type up such a well formatted and...clinical...response has more baggage and obsession than I do. As for your idea of a "crackpot" theory that's just people misremembering or whatever well here you go:

The initial difficulty of the game, notable on the forums at the time and of course also for the now infamous wolf boss at Ehmead, is abysmal because you could purchase these things (which were listed and purchasable a full month before the release of the game on the 360 if you look up the dates). Of course I am playing on Hard mostly, maybe you just play these games on Easy.
well we can use the story in abyss as an example if u get right down to it its just luke gawk gawking lord van the whole time and when he finally betrays him hes like all sad and depressed after he blindly does everything this fella says and levels like an entire population lol
Also, as a side note, just because someone is into formatting and grammatical order, does not make them obsessed, maybe a tad bit weird, but not obsessed.
They are releasing Xillia which I never played but everyone speaks well, I surely will get it when they make a PC port.
I've never played the Xillia games either and interested in checking them out because some people absolutely love them and others view them very negatively.
I think the reason I have such a sore taste for the Vesperia combat this time around is simply because of the gulf between where it starts and where it can eventually end up
The Combat system is really fun, it's kinda like Vesperia, but with more freedom in chaining attacks and artes.
The plot is okay, I guess, don't wanna spoiler anything, but if you've played older Tales of games, it might seem a little too familiar.
Xillia 2 is odd in my opinion, it's an even better gameplay, yes, but character interactions in that game are questionable, especially concering the 2 little girls in the main cast.
