Nope, it is not wrong. You automatically jumps when you push up left stick while in free mode. You need to train yourself to push UP + arte button at ALMOST the same time to prevent jumping and execute the arte instead while in "Manual" mode. Or you can just use Semi-auto if it is just that annoying. You could also set skills in Right skill if you scroll down below the arte menu

Thats annoying asf. They could have set the jump while you are in Defense, and not in Free Mode.

When you are a Judith main like I was you are thankful not to have to push any other button for the eternal air combos x)

Jump is X+UP, not just UP, at least in default mapping for (XBOX gamepad), and even if jumping occurs at just pushing up -- to enter Free Running, you need to hold LT first, then move the stick in the desired direction, so just get your timing straight.

Never once had an involuntary jump in any of my multiple playthroughs.

That only applies when you are fighting in Semi-Auto mode. During Manual mode, just UP will make you jump.

Ah, I see... well then the easiest solution should be to just go to Semi Auto... to me the best compromise anyways; for simple trash, I just need to press Attack a few times and done, and for challenging stuff, I just need to hold LT and got full free movement.

Best of both worlds, really.

Already set it to semi. Problem solved.
