How do I make the game stop thinking there's two players?
I have my xbox one controller paired to my PC via bluetooth, and whenever I play this, the game always insists that there is a Player 2 controlling one of the characters in combat. I don't want this, but I can't find any menu options to say "no, there's only one person playing, the mouse and keyboard are not for the game."

I'm sure I'm missing something simple. Any help pointing me in the right direction would be much appreciated.

Even if your game picks other controllers or the keyboard, that has no importance whatsoever if you play alone. What matter is the control mode of your characters: You the Player 1 in Manual or Semi-Auto, and P2 to P4 in Auto. You can change that in the Artes menu.

Ah, and there you have it! The game didn't explain the fact that manual or semi-auto was the thing that allowed other players to play along with you, and for whatever reason, last time I loaded the game up, my party must have been set to Auto so I never had that problem until now. Thanks! I knew I was missing something smple.

I had a similar issue to that initially too. Setting all the characters in the right party order and setting the non-player 1 characters to Auto seems to fix it though. Definitely tinker around with those settings on the Artes screen, it's what fixed it for me.

You can always change your Controller to be Player 1 if the game detects 2 controllers.

Actually this stopped working again. I set Yuri to Manual, and I set Estelle and Repede to Auto in the Artes settings. Then when a battle starts: I can't move Yuri at all. He just stands there and no input works. And then when the battle is finally over, I go back to the Artes menu and the characters have been reset to Semi-auto and Manual and stuff when they were set to Auto before. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong.

Brandon, after you press the button to enter the Party Menu, go to Save/Load -> Settings -> Button Configuration and put the controller/keyboard you're using as P1.

Most likely this is happening because the game recognized your controller/keyboard as another player. After that, you just need to set the Character occupying the P1 space as Manual.

P1 - P2 - P3 - P4 are locked considering Party Formation.
