Combat workaround?

I find myself in more than a few messes with the lockon.. Any way to compensate for not using it without suffering?

Do not move mouse much.
Also there is an option to disable auto lock on, so you can on and off it with a key press to lesser the pain.
At the end of the day it's a practice thing, I managed to beat the entire thing with KB+M with little problem.
