Anyway to play multiplayer with only one other person?

Me and my boyfriend both bought this game a while back hoping to be able to play together, but it seems like you have to find at least a few other people to start a match. Is there some sort of way to skirt around this or are we just screwed?

As far as I know, people have been bringing up the issue of the game not being able to just add AI bots to multiplayer matches in case number of human players are not enough so I dont think there is a way around this...

There is no way to play this game with only two people. It requires at least 3 human players, or 6 human players, nowhere in-between.
There is a discord where most of us who play this game hang out. You could ask there. It should be listed in another discussion.

Kinda stupid, considering half of the story missions are pair-up missions with 2 players (you and an NPC). I would've expected pair-up missions in multiplayer as well.
