Springtrap And Scraptrap: My Theory
How did Springtrap become Scraptrap? I'm not a Miketrap believer, never have been, since I know my lore, so don't worry. But it's still weird how if they're the same character ("You may not recognize me at first, but I assure you it's still me") how they look so different. However, I've cooked up a theory. Firstly, look at the Springbonnie head on the top right from the FNaF 4 Storage Closet minigame. IMO it looks really similar to Scraptrap's head, except for the tiny teeth at the bottom jaw, even down to the two buck teeth on the top jaw. We can see how both suits are Springlock suits, since they use the Springbonnie character (one that was only used during the Springlock era of the company) and since they both have five fingers, just enough for a human to fit inside. So, I have an explanation as to how they look and sound so different yet can be the same. Following the Fazbear's Fright fire, it's pretty obvious that while Springtrap did survive (as we see in FNaF 3's ending newspaper and in FNaF SL's final cutscene), it's likely that he was extremely damaged from the fire, and since the springlock suits appear to be made out of softer materials (like fur and fabric), they're definitely flammable. So, following the fire, Springtrap made his way back to an abandoned Fredbear's, stole a spare Springbonnie costume, and since his old costume was damaged, he was able to take it off and put on another one that didn't have spikes digging into him at all times (mostly). It's why Scraptrap is taller and bulkier, with design changes; it's two different suits. As for his spike-arm, it probably just got torn off when he escaped Springtrap, since the springlocks were still active and this likely diced him up in multiple places when he exited the original suit, including his weakened right arm, which fell off. Although, while I wrote this, something bothered me: how in the hell does Scraptrap talk? I mean, Springtrap can't speak. In FNaF 3 we hear that the only noises he can make are groans and moans of pain, most likely because his vocal cords have been partially severed and that he's under intense pain from the active springlocks. But in FFPS and UCN we can clearly hear Scraptrap talking just fine, even with an accent and everything. It's a bit messy, but maybe Scraptrap is making use of the suit's voicebox? After all, I'd imagine that nobody would want to break into Fredbear's after a little boy got killed by the dangerous robots, and if they did, they wouldn't want to tamper with those deadly robots, so apart from age the suits would have nearly fully functional voice boxes, if not a bit distorted. However, with Springtrap, he was left to rot in a damp, moist saferoom, and the water probably damaged his voicebox, so the only sound it could make would be that of William's own voice: groans and moans from his severed vocal cords. In fact, Scraptrap's voice sounds old and raspy, like a distorted voice box would on the old Springbonnie suit.
But hey, that's just a theory! A LAME Theory! Thanks for reading!
Go easy on me since this is my first FNaF theory I've ever posted online, but I'd love to hear y'all's thoughts and constructive criticism!

Sorry it's such a long read, this is a pretty confusing question I wanted to answer.

it's just a redesign, dude. there's not a complex backstory to it
