F1 2018
Resource points
Big fan !! Have been for many years. Totally frustrated though, How does one accumalate enough resource points to remain not only competive, but in the game. Perhaps Im missing something. By the 3rd race of the season engines are losing power or some unit is beginning to fail, and by the 5th race Im taking grid penalties and losing to rivals. Team bosses are losing thier cool and Im seriously considering finding a cheat program to load millions of points just to keep the game interesting and enjoyable.
I admit to being a technical Neanderthal but the game has to have features to assist those like me who dont have or fully understand the technial requirements of these cars to stay in it and enjoy.
HELP !!! ANYBODY

Set the difficutly to low, do all the practice targets to gain the most points you can. Every bit helps, including doing a minimum 10 laps in each practice session to get more points.

i have overcome the wear and tear on engine by doing a single lap in each session example is once your have done 1 lap in track acclimitisation exit back to garage and same with all other sessions and this highly reduces wear and tear and you will still get good value points for future upgrades.

wheres the cheat for millions of points , I want it too....
Dont need it but.................
Heres some hints: get a decent setup under the car;
realsport101.com/tag/f1-2018-setup-guide/
reduce difficulty in beginning to help get results then raise it as you go along.
IMO I get durability up for ICE and gearbox and components fairly heavily in 1st season
And complete all practice programs for points. I do 100% races with full practice but you could do some shorter races and still have enough practice time to get programs complete. you only need 1 good lap in all but race strategy program.
This is a video game and you can manipulate anyway you want to help you learn. Now if you're a purist and "Have to" do it the hard way then never mind what I have mentioned.
Test the setups at Time trial to see if it suits your style , adjust, save and then all you have to do in career is adjust for tyre wear.

Thnx Chaps.
Im currently on 65 (hard) level with assists ( traction control, ABS braking and automatic gear box) but will try it with the level turned down to easy and increase if it gets boring. I also only do 50% races. I will also try doing only minimum required laps for the practice programs as one accumalates points just for participation.
Thnx for the setup info too as i find regardless of the setup, the car always feels the same (oversteer / understeer / loose backend / slow cornering etc) even though I have an excellent wheel with the all the settings that Im very happy with and are as perfect as can be for my style. Time trial is my friend and as for being a "purist", its probably the only reason I havent signed up for the "cheat" program yet.
Thnx again. will post my progress

The reason I gave Toby's setup advice he explains many aspects of making the setup. If you want really fast setups use Limitless setups from here in Steam. at some tracks Lmtlss setups will eat up tyres
Jester Zoofist Nov 6, 2018 @ 11:12am
I never seem to have a problem with tyres, Practice program on tyre ware is usually green or purple - its just engine management. Ive just done a 50% race in Russia and had my engine blow on lap 21 because theres nothing one can do with only 846 resourse points, Uuuuurgh!! So frustrating!!!
Yes, thnx for the set-ups. very explanatory, but as I mentioned - theres probably something Im missing. Ive been playing F1 since 2010 and other racing prior to that and am fairly compitant at it but its just 2017/18 which now has this engine management feature which admittedly adds an excitng dimension to the game but which seams to demand some level of technical compitency which I just dont possess
trukrdad53 Nov 6, 2018 @ 10:36pm
as I mentioned I apply my resource points towards durability seriously in first season.ICE , turbo , Heat are the main engine components I do and I also do gearbox for a few. Also as an engine gets to 50% it becomes practice engine only and change to fresh engine for Q and race and after race change back to old engine for practice. As engine gets to 80% i then retire it from practice.
you can change engine and its components at Data centre without penalty

I play with KB and my tire wear is always red and very high, but ressource points are no problem to get in 2018.
Im in my 3rd season, the 2nd for Ferrari and this car is near full developed. Don´t know why you should cheat ressource points here ^^

I think upgrading reliability is key especially the ICE, first then I would recommend picking a department and upgrading the efficiency. Most of the other teams don't tend to upgrade before the 5th race so you have time.
Also use every interview to build morale for that department.
Ideally aim to max out the efficency then you can upgrade at the cheapest it can be to keep up with the other teams.
If you can accumulate spare points put them to efficiency in another department.
Try and get the hard team goals. They still scale to your team expectations and I've found them mostly doable.

Thnx Guys. Ive restarted seasons in both 2017 and 2018 and implamenting these suggestions and find Im having far less frustrating sessions
trukrdad53 Nov 8, 2018 @ 9:44pm
You can change difficulty between sessions so you could have a lower difficulty for Free Practice and then turn it up for Race. The option only shows for a real short time after you leave a session in the loading page. And since your using a wheel you can turn off Traction control on dry tracks and get a faster car. I have to turn TC back on when in the wet. Its a matter of resetting pedal sensitvity and such for the wet and its easiest to just turn on TC.

Ive been applying all the afore-mentioned advice and I think Ive found a sweet spot. Got a great balance between difficulty settings, upgades, car balance, engine settings, wheel settings etc......Also making incremental upward changes to all the above including assists and so far Im having a blast!!!
Appreciate all the advice Guys. Thnx a mil

Hey, i know this may be a day late and a dollar short, but blowing your engine on the 4th race seems pretty excessive. I am playing on 103 difficulty with sauber and im nearing the end of my first season. I have had to take on 1 extra engine part for all parts of the engine, and took my second gearbox 1 race early.
- All that said, the engine wear hasnt been terrible and a trick is to take all your new parts on the same race so as to minimize the number of races you take penalties in.
- Now with that said, is it possibly something to do with your driving style? Do you let the engine rev really high or run on rich fuel mix a lot?
- Also, as others have said, investing in durability at the begining of the season is key. Also, accumulating resource points outweighs the wear you put on your engine by doing the laps to achieve the goals. For each weekend I am always within 10-15 resource points of the max achievable. And, again, like others have said, try and complete the goals with as few laps as possible. Id say race and quali combined should give you about 300 resource points (depending on your weekend its quite likely more), but that gives you a minimum of ~620 points a weekend (not including team goal bonuses). That is enough for one durability upgrade a weekend so by race 8 you could have all the 1st level upgrades done (including gearbox).
- Finally, one trick i use is to use fresh engine parts during the race and used ones during practice sessions. there is no grid place penalty for switched between components (expect gearbox). So once i get to about 50% wear on any given part, I switch to a new one for the race and then at the begining of the next weeked switch back to the used part for practice (just dont forget to switch back for the race or you will be blowing parts :P ). Also, at a certain point the wear is high enough that reaching the necessary laptimes for the program might be difficult.

I hope this novel helps and let me know if you have any other questions. Also, id be interested to know if youre destroying the competition at your currently difficulty setting (you said you reduced it). I am a sucker for realism so if i had to reduce the difficulty and just be way better than the Ai just to improve my car that would be really frustrating for me :)

Perhaps a dollar short but never too late. As I mentioned previously, Im a technical Neanderthal and cant tell the difference between a sparkplug and a tyre but i have implimented much of the above advice (and will do so with your invaluable input) and have found an enjoyable sweet spot. This also by increasing or decreasing the difficulty levels.

Im also not a purist but just enjoy a single player race on career mode to relax after a workday. Thats not to imply that I dont enjoy a bit of a scrap. Since using all this advice, in a Haas, with most assists and automatic gears, I do single lap goals during practice on 60 (mostly purple) and the race on 65 and finishing realisticly in the points.

Am I wrong to assume that with assists the high revs are of little consiquence and feedback from the pits is scripted.

I will also try swapping between engines to add another dimension to my game

Again, thnx guys! with all your input, touve not only increased my technical knowledge of the game, but my enjoyment in it

Glad to hear you're enjoying it more and more!

- So, you are correct that with automatic gearing that there should not be any undue wear based on revs. But if you are using manual gearing but other assists (TT,abs) then you CAN put extra wear on the engine. Also a note on assists. You will, without a doubt, be faster without them. Now i know all assists off is not for everyone and some would prefer a drive where they do not want to constantly deal with a car with a mind of its own. That said, the thing that will slow you down the most is the braking assist. It will brake earlier than need be for you and with just a little practice you'll learn to do it better with it off (especially if you're using ABS). If you've already turning braking assis off, then try turning ABS down.

Based on your results it sounds like you're right in the right difficulty setting. As for car setup, it is true that the fastest people in the world will use specific setups, but the fact that you are a 'setup neanderthal' shoudlnt make a big difference. I have a friend who plays on a wheel as well and who didnt use setups and he was often just as quick as me. Out of curiosity, what wheel are you using?
