D3D Device has been removed
Hello folks,
Yesterday I upgraded from 2 GTX 1080s (the game was only able to use one anyway) to a 2080 Ti and I'm getting the D3D Device has been removed issue that a lot of people seem to be getting aswell. However, I never had that issue with the old setup in any F1 game. So it has to be something related to the GPU.
I tried removing the drivers with DDU and reinstalling them. It seemed to fix the issue (before I was getting the crash after a few seconds out on track and I once got it in the menus). But after 30 laps at Canada the unthinkable happened again...
What am I supposed to do? The GPU is rock solid in other games and I haven't overclocked it yet.

I'm having the same issue. I've even downclocked my 2080ti to the lowest clocks for core and mem. Originally, I had my 8700k running at 5.1 and encountered the crash, I then changed it back to stock (4.7 auto) (ram is @ 4133mhz) and that seem to have helped but the crash has returned. I've varified my files through steam with no files missing or modified. I may have encountered this crash with my 1080ti but have not encountered it with my Alienware 17 r5 which has a gtx 1070. Interesting bug. The only thing I can suggest is to do a midsave every lap which really isn't reasonable. I too haven't encountered any errors or crashes with my 2080ti with other recent titles. Might just be localized with out F1 title.

I read that someone tried, "try to enter "-safemode" as startoption in steam..
my game doesn't crash anymore :) i had the same problem as you" I haven't tested it and I'm headed to bead since it's almost 4am on the eastcoast. Hopefully, that works for now until it's patched.

There's a few people with this problem. Check out their forum thread (Codemasters):

From one of their techy people:
"The error is usually seen when there is a failure in the hardware, e.g. a power fluctuation or overheating, which causes the system to momentarily lose connection to the gfx card. Lowering GFX settings is unlikely to have much effect as this will result in higher frame rates which will create a similar load on your system. The suggested solution above to lower the load on on the card sounds like a good approach to increase stability if switching out power supplies or GFX cards is not an option. If you don't have access to anything to lower the GPU power demand, then capping framerate (either in game or through an external programme) might help."

Thank you Jonny.
Yeah don't use the safe mode command unless you're having crashes on start up. I was able to get stable by actually setting the quality setting to ultra. I then changed the AA to TAA as I had it on checkerboarding as TAA is more stressful which lowers the frames for the 2080ti. I've only able to verify that for about 15 laps.

Don't have F12018 yet, but I had this problem with F1 2017 last year. If it helps, I cured it by installing older graphics drivers. I think I installed drivers from 2017, and the game still runs fine now.

Well, my GPU is completly stable in all other games and nearly brand new so I have to call ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on that.

Well it crashed again. I do think it has something to do with drivers. After upgrading to the latest drivers, this issue began.

Does it happen with the old drivers?
Edit: I have the 416.16 drivres, not the latest ones. I will update to the latest ones to see if it helps

Lower AA to TAA checkerboard, it will resolve the issue.

I had the same error. Turns out my GPU runs everything else fine, but because it overheated due to a fan failure it ruined a module and screwed everything else up.

You may have a faulty GPU. I took it to my Tech at the Computer shop I deal with and did all the testing and Temperature viewing and still got the error on the malfunctioning GPU. But then we swapped it for another one and it worked fine no more D3D error.
