Fuel Management Test in Career mode
Hey there guys.

I know i am not the best when it comes to fuel management, and Lift and Coast Technic.
But still even though i think i will pass the test it keeps going in more and more plus time.

So it makes me thinking.

is the Target Time somekind of Range ?
Like it has to be in between time X and Time Y to pass it or is it just kinda broken?

I can't manage the fuel test, too. Driving team Renault. No problem with other tests.

is the difficulty in this test.
Related to the AI Difficulty?

Yes the difficulty setting have a direct effect on that target times

Also it's no target range, you have to beat that time to complete the task. Just so that you know ;)

To pass the test there are 2 components:

1: You have to beat the lap time doesn't matter by how much even 0.001s will do, as long as your delta is green when you cross the line you have completed this component.

2: Your fuel efficiency gauge must be in the green at least when you finish the lap to pass the test. If you can do even better and get the gauge into the purple when you cross the finish line you earn even more development points.

You only need to do both of these things once on the same lap to complete the test. If you only get green it will continue so you can try for purple but you can return to the garage if you don't want to.

A few tips I found helpful:

This is the only test where you cannot change the fuel mix or the ERS, so you can't use these to help you. I don't remember if it sets your fuel but just in case make sure in car setup that the ammount of fuel is no more that 3 laps worth.

Lift and coast - This is many peoples suggestion so lift off the accelerator earlier as you approach a corner and allow momentum to keep you speed up before you start to break.

Short Shifting - I found this was far more advantageous as you can do it all the time. Shift up the gears early, so I listen for the note beginning to rise and aim for when the first light appears. Certainly shift up before the first set of lights fills (Red on the Williams).

Be strategic - If there is a section where you lose loads of time and don't seem to be able to save much fuel just attack it as you would do normally and make up the fuel loss elsewhere or conversely there are sections where you can shift the meter massively without losing too much time. Try to figure out where these bits are for you.

Get a good setup - Thankfully if like me you aren't that great a figuring out a good setup for the car, there are plenty in the steam workshop to download. Get one that you feel is quick and comfortable.

Change those tyres - If you are struggling with a test, switch to a fresh set of tyres, it might get you the few 0.1s you need. Watch you don't use your last set of the softest compound before you complete the Qualification test, as doing that on spent rubber or harder compounds is really tough.

For the other programs:

Dump fuel - Empty all but 3 laps of fuel out of the car,(Probably could get away with 2 as who cares about the inlap), no point carrying round extra weight for the ERS and qualifying tests. Run in Mix 3 for the ERS test to make up for lower ERS deployment.

great explanation, also keep in mind that the track can improve overtime that means more grip in general at the end of the session, even more in P3 i guess, also i found that the first lap of the test is more difficult, so keep going, lap 2 and 3 it's easier... and take a look at the durability of your engine, a damaged engine could be a problem in these tests :D
Btw we don't have to pass all these tests, i think it is designed to fail it sometimes, more fun :D fail is acceptable sometimes!

Try shifting up much much quicker and taking the corner 1 gear higher than you normally would.

mmm what i tried was to lift and coast, but try to always keep the delta on the green, this is more important, also try to maintein the fuel gauge at least in the middle of the green bar. Finally and the end of the lap, depending how much time u r saving, try to lift the accelerator before crossing the finish line. This has worked for me, but im still trying to find my AI difficulty so well... you don't loose anything trying.
