Crimson Control... Broken?

When I try to use crimson control it does not look like this: https://youtu.be/Goeo9fHTwKU?t=2992

Instead, it just immediately shuts off and drains the bar to 50% when I turn it on. If I mash attack right away I might get off one of the special attacks with it and that's it.
Can't find anything about it on google.

This game has some interesting levels design, but the handling is just, really bad. Just finished Katana Zero, and it controlled great. So I don't think it's my controller.

Could you take a screenshot of your controller layout from the pause menu and share it here? It sounds like some inputs may be mapped twice.
