4 castles?
Anyone had a province with 4 castles either as your starting one or that you took over? Most I've seen is 3 and even that seems pretty rare

Yes I’ve owned several. They are an awesome location to build all the military buildings and have a marshal governor it. It will produce a huge number of levies and make that marshal’s army size bigger.

Ah man! Is it total RNG or any zone or kingdom that seems to get em?

Got a 3 castle start with the hillside forts but its my first very hard play through and it is TOUGH. Hard to get any kind of momentum going, partly because I chose to make it even harder by going with a kingdom in the middle of the map @_@

I just took my first four castle region from the Kievans. I had attacked them before much earlier, but it didn't go well, and forced white peace whenever there was conflict. This was a different story, and ended up taking a chunk of the Kievan lands, including my first three crop region. I'm hoping to come across a four crop region at some point as I continue pushing deeper inland. You can never have enough food in this game when considering expanding logistics.

Got lucky and found a province with four castles and hill forts.
Those with three castles and hill forts are sufficient as well, though, to get manpower per foot squad above 650 (with the usual bonuses from traditions/extra companies).

In my Jerusalem campaign, I had Aleppo with 4 castles and 2 villages, with the right buildings and traditions, your King can have a max army size of around ~8k troops.
In my Georgia campaign , I have Kutaisi with 4 castles and 1 hillfort, again same troops number ~8k.
To get 8k army, your troops have to be only infantry and/or archers.
You can get even larger numbers like 8.5k if you have only peasant/militia army.

I think the iciing on the cake would be metalworking as well for that discount on heavy units haha but honestly even my 3 castle town right now is holding its own against a kingdom with about 10X my land mass. I'm not sure how I'm going to get rolling out of this mess but right now my plan is to make an army and run for it xD try to find a one kingdom province far from my troubles and basically start over

I recently started another game where my neighbour has a city with 4:2:1 of castles, villages and hillfort, This is the best city I have found so far in any of my campaigns for building a big army.
Ofc my wet dream would be to find a city with 4:4:1 , with such a city my King can easily command a 8.5k army of Templars and do a reverse crusade on Rome! lol

But I never seen a combo of 4:4 (4 castles with 4 villages) , I dont think it even exists

I did find a four castle/four crop farms province in my game. Made it a levy-centre-♥♥♥-breakbasket.
