does anyone bother with spies ?
they take up a valuable knight slot, their actions are too expensive for its successrate, there arent any really valuable actions to begin with ? (possibly provoke war)

id rather have a trader or marshall.

thoughts?

Spies are costly but can absolutely ruin a rival country if you have the funds.

I mean its the only way to "diplo-annex" vassals. And you can make independent kingdoms. Its also funny to rebel a country to death.

Spies are mostly just toys for late game. Usually other knights are better but you can do neat stuff with them like consuming entire kingdom at once. Late game 1 spy for that + witch hunt to protect you from enemies spies is OK.

Late game spies feel like a must for me. If i'm trying to push a big kingdom out of the great power list, it's a lot easier to just send a spy there to cause trouble instead of having to go across half the map and slowly conquer his stuff

I have been using them i think they are really good, i dont think i have seen every possibility but a lot so far

just by sending them to a kingdom it gives a lot of information just by beeing there, you can see their territory their buildings/upgrades and armies on their territory

i have had a bribed marhsall become a king once but "something" happened and no idea what would have happened or maybe its just a huge relation boost with that nation not sure

what i was wondering but havent yet managed to try that what would happen if my daughter becomes a queen then if i would manage to assasinate her husband (king) and they would have no princes or childs at all (not sure if this is the same or different) then would i get all of their territory or something or what would happen

I guess i would have a claim option? would be lame if she would just get a new random king

I think the success chance is bugged. I've bribed knights or killed kings with a success rate of 9% before. Failed inciting riots with a success rate of 76%.

You're much better off focusing on other knights early / mid game. Wait till you have enough money to just throw at spys.

Massive central part of the game for me, they're a big part of my plans for managing relations, conquering lands, winning wars

Best thing to do when you're bored in Knights of Honor 1, just create tons of rebellions and Indepentend Kingdoms :)

They are OP as heck if you play to use them and get the traditions, you can steal an entire nation without a war

For me, a spy is a must-have, they can massively boost your stability when governing and their actions really are valuable but you have to bribe knights for some of them.
- You can spawn and reinforce loyalist rebellions.
- You can burn food or open city gates for easy sieges.
- You can provoke a war with yourself if you don't want to ruin relations with others or if you have a defensive pact.
- You can steal gold from their treasury, which can be a lot.
And there's probably more that I don't know of.

- You can make other countries' governors break away as your vassals
- you can murder various knights (including active marshals)
- you can make marshals turn into rebels
- you can improve troop quality of rebels
- you can turn ordinary rebels into loyalists
- you can murder kings
- you can ruin other kingdoms' trade relations
and other stuff that I haven't found out myself yet.

Spies are nuts. If you know how, you can subjugate an entire nation with 1 spy.

An absolute must-have for me as well, can't imagine fighting against someone I don't have a spy at, at least for main opponent in war (one I'm likely to take lands of). I'm even pondering a spy-focused playthrough right now, with related traditions and stuff, just no solid idea who and when would be best for it yet. Already had a blast playing as Merchant-focused Genoa with Bribery Tradition, bought myself a quarter of France by bribing right Burgundian Prince, and fragmented Byzantines by having their Knights go independent.
