same tips as for every kingdom/empire. diplomats to make peace until you're ready to smash everyone
clerics can raise armies when needed so it's perfect to pacify conquered provinces while smashing last rebels.
Though in my game playing slow, pagan religion spread a lot around automatically with high stability and autority.
If you want too, don't attack abbassids too fast or too slow. They can become a real pain with plenty of armies and call Djihad on you if they feel you're too much a threat. Make sure you're friend with their biggest friends (Ayoubids?) before you do.
Last thing, for trade victory (advantages), you'll need to change religion - etiher muslim or catholic - to get the end-game goods like compass. No rush in that, you can do it veryyyy late like I did.
