Maybe they should allow controlling the hired mercs? Right now they do as they see fit.
That said, more knights is not just about "managing" militarily (as in, having more marshals), but also to have free slots for the other functions. The game has so many aspects and opportunities for clerics, diplomats, spies and merchants, but they remain underrepresented because marshals take up most of the slots.
What a silly response! No-one asked for a win-all button. Maybe 9 is enough for some players, but we all play differently and some players, would like a couple more, probably for larger kingdoms.
You can educate every child diretly into diretion you want, and choose your starting ruler at gamestart options, which direction you want to start.
