How to trade for barrels
I understand that "deep forests" are needed to produce barrels.

I have pulled up the Goods screen from the Goods tab on the bottom right by the map and selected Barrels. It shows me stripped territories.

Im not sure if these ppl have access to the barrels yet? and if they did, im not sure how to gain access, is it just a single trade deal? Like trading has tiers to it, so im not sure if i need medium scale trade or what.

Tbh, im also not super clear if i get income from a trade agreement via audience diplomacy, or if i need to actually hire a merchant to go establish that trade route once agreed.

You first need a trade agreement with a kingdom, and then you have to send your merchant to trade with them (click on him, he has an action for it).
After that if they have the good you want, he has another button that opens up the available goods to import. If it's not opening up, it means that they don't have any goods that you don't already have

Trade agreements on their own still give you a little bit of money - the AI sends "visiting merchants" in your kingdom, and they give you a small amount of gold. If you click on the gold icon at the top bar with all the kingdom resources, you'll see the income window, and if you move your mouse over the "Trade" section it mentions "visiting merchants".

As for the stripes, i'm not sure myself, i think stripes only meant that they can construct them, while fully green means that they're already producing them. Each political view has a legend, under the top row of the minimap buttons, to the left

"prerequisites: market square" - you have to build the market square in that province

it's red if you can never ever build it with the current provinces you have (then you have to go out and conquer stuff)
yellow means that you CAN currently build it, possibly with some prerequisites
