Be at war with a nation, be better than them and demand them to become vassals in order to have peace.

If you are in a war with someone and you are much stronger and have won multiple battles already and they have one or two provinces left when you go to sign peace there is an option to demand for something and you can try to vassalize them. Also you may want to have you diplomat increasing relations with them a little before you do it just to get a slight increase in their opinion with you so it helps your odds somewhat. Thats just extra.

I think he means can you like just make one, like if I completely killed Lithuania and wiped them off the map could you reform them as a vassal.

This will come with an update in the future.

But vassalisation in this game sucks balls, the only thing it gives you is money, vassal can deny any help if he wants like any other nation could, seriouslee its broken or rather very shallow and dissapointing. I know game in general is lighter and less complex EUIV but still this is not good.

I'd argue its more "real", even though historical accuracy isn't top priority in the game, this part at least is more realistic, they are vassal kingdoms. And they will come and help if you have strong relations with them. Problem is like most ally kingdoms AI, they suck at coordination and sit in their pretty province doing nothing if there's no guarantee of winning.

So what's to gain from having a vassal except income? Because all the rest u can get from any other kingdom which is not your vassal. It's not real cause asfaik vassals couldn't fight separate wars without allowance from sovereign, and they were obligated to help in time of need, disobeyance was resulting in punishment and was treated as betrayal - none of those exists in the game. They are completely free to do whatever they want and only pay tribute. This does not make any sense.

Vassals right now are not worth at all they rarely participate in wars and you don't get vision from them.

They're good to have if they accept the offer, sometimes they refuse to give land/gold but will accept vassal, and sometimes they give 100income as part of it. Unless you're absolutely 100% sure you can take their land by force+sustain the rebels+cost of disorder, then having them as vassals is pretty good.

They accept vassalage quite a lot of times in any given war, and you're not always in shape to continue a war yourself, as it puts you at risk of others declaring on you and you're not ready to defend. It depends basically.

But if you want to start a war exclusively to vassalize its probably not worth it no. It also relates to my issue of ungoverned cities giving only 10% of their production, meaning its more profitable to simply get vassal income, and the "iron fist" tradition gives a lot of bonuses towards that (albeit with some negatives as well).

Is it worth it to quell rebels in vassal states? I forced England into coughing up two provinces and submitting as a vassal, but rebels are rampant in their remaining provinces. Should I let them just wreck their country or step in? Not sure of the benefit in either direction.

If you want to keep them as useful vassals then help with their rebels until they get a handle on things, if you want to drop them or let england retake them then don't worry about it. As an extra bonus you can level your defense troops on rebels super easy :) tier 3 longbowman are amazing for castle defense
