Yeah, you're right.. I tried the same thing and it doesn't work as well. But if I remember correctly in KOH1, there was a "compiled" file that includes the XLS file inside it. What I did was I had to use the KOH tool to extract that XLS file, make the edits with Excel, then I have to recompile it back into the same file to update it with the new edited XLS file.
I'm not sure if something similar can be done here. Maybe something to do with the other .BAK file? or it can be somewhere else as you said.
But I think since the game has a official mod support anyway. This shouldn't be too hard to do as long as we know how the mod feature works and there's probably a community (even though it's even more niche for a niche game) and we'll get different mods being available, and get those edited in any way we want.
