Paying to rehire a former King's Soldiers?!
Okay. This is my bug bear so far with this game. Why on Earth am I having to pay rehire my now deceased King's personal army? Sure, it's not as expensive as the original recruit cost, but come on. Especially if there's some elite units, it's a massive expense to suddenly be lumped with.
In KoH1, the armies marshals that became crusaders, and kings that died of natural causes, became mercenary camps, but the soldiers were free to be re-recruited by one of your own marshals.
Please change this. IMHO, it's frankly ridiculous.

I am trying to figure out why basic barracks cost me millions in one province just because I have fully upgraded barracks elsewhere...this is ridiculous, if your country is large it makes building multiple barracks like some grand world miracle...but the game is fine expecting me to walk half the map to recruit units...

technically if you know your king is getting old you can put his units in the nearest garrison.
But yeah, needs a fix
As per upgrades, I'm on the fence, on one hand it saves the botheration of building all the upgrades again and allows devs to have more buildings with fewer building slots, plus the net cost is lower; on the other an upgrade that helps villages is a waste of money in a province with no villages.

Sadly, didn't work that way for me. The King's units simply get dumped outside the castle and have to be rehired :/

Did he die in battle or of old age? Or do you mean the "healing" cost when you go to towns to replenish troops

On the flip side though if you have a fully upgraded barracks you just have to build one little building and BOOM all your troops are unlocked in your new city

Old age. His troops dumped as a mercenary camp, as DarrelZz said.
I've decided to simply not let my king be a marshal, and use a knight for the army I was using my king for. It's simply cheaper in the long run with this frankly dumb system.

Ohh yeah I see now, the kings as marshal are SO STRONG though, I use them until they hit "old" status then either have them lead cheaper troops or put them in garrison and go sit on the throne till the reaper comes for em u_u
