When I booted up Knights of Honor II: Sovereign, I had this immediate flashback to the days when I used to lose hours, maybe even whole weekends, to strategy games like this. It's almost like nothing’s changed – still the same feeling of building up armies, balancing diplomacy, and just trying to keep your kingdom from falling apart. It’s comforting in a way.

I’m not gonna lie, the graphics aren’t exactly cutting-edge, but honestly, I didn’t come to this for that. It’s all about the gameplay, and it’s pretty close to what I remember from back in the day. You’re juggling all these elements without it feeling too crazy, which I like. It’s one of those games where you can get lost in the flow.

Of course, it’s not perfect. The menus? A bit clunky. And I found myself wishing for a little more guidance at times, but then again, that’s kind of how it used to be, right? Figuring stuff out on your own was part of the fun back then, so I didn’t mind too much.

If you’re into the old-school strategy vibe, like I am, and you’ve got a soft spot for the original, Knights of Honor II hits that nostalgic sweet spot. It’s not for everyone, but for me, it feels like coming home to a genre that’s been missing from my life for a while.

Lacking as a grand strategy game. This game is filled with tons of bugs and poorly created AI. The game is frustrating and I find it difficult to enjoy. Not worth the $45 price tag.

Everything that needs to be done requires money. This however, slows the game down and turns it into a waiting sim. Advisor abilities should be tied to different resources.

I imagine owning a lot of cities makes with game an annoying slog. A similar issue with Total War games. Remembering what and which cities were doing.

Food says 8 surplus, creating a soldier says it costs 20, one food is removed from my counter. Legitimately no idea what's going on here.

The game feels like it's trying to do too many things all at once and losing depth because of it.

There's attempts to curb effects of snowballing. Blacksmiths increasing cost and only cities with them can produce units. Pop also being required to produce units. It's a decent system.

I bought the game for a few dollars. I wouldn't pay over five for it. I've got a thousand hours in eu4 and I find myself regretting wasting my time with paradox games in general.

There's better games to play that have something to say instead of this shallow skinner box.
