For some reason, the game won't let me pick up the hammar to save Fluffy. Does anybody know why?

You have to look at the wall you will break with the hammer before you can pick it up (so that he knows why he should pick the hammer up in the first place).
The wall to break is inside the bathroom besides the one Fluffy is in.

Hey, I can't get into the bathroom that I think the wall is because the door is shut, and there's the sound of a crying woman on the 3rd floor. I'm completely lost. I have all the letters but M, and I can't seem to find that either.

Edit: Nevermind, I finally realized that you're supposed to inspect the actual wall at the bottom border of the fragments, of the open bathroom.
