Other games like this?
I'm enjoying this game a lot, and plan to take it to absolute completion, but this is still not my ideal puzzle game, and I was wondering if this exists. This forum may know, however.

I'm looking for a puzzle game with the following characteristics:
- cute critters (Baba Is You is too basic)
- object/NPCs have properties (unlike Baba Is You, where everything is meaningless without rules, rules are the real objects/properties)
- square grid movement
- timing-based puzzles kept to a minimum (Baba Is You so far is like this, but for example, do you know when some times you need to rely on NPC to move automatically, but be coordinated to do something specific?)
- I know it's not relevant, but I'd like if the maps were unique/hand-crafted, and preferably had environmental story-telling. I know it's a tall ask, but if I'm going to look at the setting for a while, I like it to be interesting. (Baba Is You again, is too basic, and I think it's fine for what it aims at, then again, I haven't seen a puzzle game that did this right either)
- and here on Steam

I have played:
- Lolo 1 for GB
- Chu Chu Rocket for GBA
- Polaris for GBA
- probably off, but: Bubble Bobble on & New for GBA

Vagrant Story might be the only game that did the unique puzzle setting, but that's not a dedicated Puzzle game either.

You might like Paquerette Sown the Bunborrows.
The only things it doesn't have from your list is the environmental storytelling thing and the unique/handcrafted puzzles thing.

I don't think i actually know of any grid-based puzzle game with what i would consider environmental storytelling.
Maybe you'd consider A Monster's Expedition to have environmental storytelling because of its museum exhibits? But i don't think it would count for "cute critters".

I'd recommend to try Desktop Dungeons. It fits your description quite tight.

OK these games aren't cute, but they are ultimately puzzle games with interesting mechanics. You may enjoy them:
