Squad 44

Squad 44

I like the game but i pretty much hate the bolt action rifle
Still considering buying, but it seems like everyone I die to has a full auto. I never have the option. Only thing I can get is the bolt action.

Which IMO just is boring as hell and makes it really difficult for me to get into the thick of things.. Which so far most of the fighting I've done has been relatively close combat so I'm not sure why a bolt action is the thing. I don't even think this is historically accurate.

Any plans for letting us upgrade to better guns or this just one of those "git gud newb" things that devs just sticking their feet in the mud about?

So the amount of SMGs and semi auto rifles changes per faction but normally, they are given to Squad leaders, radiomen, and some specialist kits like sapper. the US was the only nation to not rely on bolt action rifles during the war. the bulk of British, German, french and japans troops used bolt action rifles for the whole war.

some bolt actions are far better than others but the main thing in close fighting is grenades grenades grenades, use them

Press C to attach your bayonet and Caps Lock to use it.

I heard they liked D-Day's location and views but the locals SUCKED!

To answer your question, yes this is a skill issue, and yes the most used guns during WW2 was bolt action rifles.

One time a Brit ran out of the bushes, twenty feet away. I fired my bolt at him, missed. He fired his bolt at me, missed. I fired, he fired. Then we both turned and ran back into the bushes. I would never have gotten that amazing moment playing the AAA trash.
PS, the German radio operator gets semi auto. BB gun.

squad 44 is a major departure for players who known the traditional fps, you gotta be more patient, wait for targets, you arent going to be getting any kills and get on objective if you rush in, slow and steady. Cause the enemy already knows to be slow and they will already hear you, and be prepared, preaiming that corner you will round.

i mean.. slow and steady makes no sense with a lot of these maps that I've seen. Added to the fact that the people with automatic weapons can immediately destroy you it's totally unbalanced. As in someone with the full auto can just go in guns blazing and I'm dead while I crawl around trying to pick my way to a camping spot..

Just boring and frustrating at the same time.

Either the maps need to be less about getting up close and personal or there needs to be options.

Anyway.. I'm gonna pass on it so y'all can make of my opinion what you will

Judging by the player count after the "free" run I don't think I'm alone here

Stick with your section. You're more likely to survive.

That's for you, your section, and team to figure out. As I suggested attach your bayonet and use it. It doesn't run out of ammo.

This isn't the reason the player count is at where it's at.

I would argue among the bolt action rifles, the best ones are the British Lee-Enfields.

10 rounds while everyone else have 5, they shoot and reload fast and when you aim down the sight, your eyes doesn't look away from each loaded round.

Well, it is almost historically accurate, IRL you would have less semi and auto weapons on average. Standard early Wehrmacht rifle squad had 1 MP40, 1 MG42 and the rest had bolt action rifles. As the war went on there were some variations on this: either an extra MP40 and/or a semi auto. I think the armored panzer grenadiers had two MG42s at some point. SS soldiers had better equipment especially late war but still mostly rifles.

There were dedicated assault platoons in the Volksgrenadier Divisions starting around the Bulge and on - these platoons carried full automatic weapons I think (all STG and MP40s). But I think these were limited to only 1 per company.
I used to hate the bolt action rifles when I started play squad44, but I eventually learned how to use them. One thing I learned was trigger discipline. Take a few seconds aiming at that far off target instead of flicking to it. Don’t fire at an enemy you barely see through a gap unless they are slow. Barely peak through bushes to stay concealed. A good amount of concealment is being able to see through your sight but having leaves in your screen. If you really can’t with bolt actions, help your team and choose medic. They usually get a semi auto pistol which kills in about 2 body shots.

This game has a even more full auto and semi auto weapons than any nation would have had in 1940-1944. The US is the only exception.

Well, actually the US never had grease guns in rifle squads so that's definitely not accurate, but on the other hand, they did sometimes "find" extra BARs before it was standard sometime in 45.

It takes some getting used to and it's definitely weakest up close. Its mid and long range are exceptional. I tend to get my highest kill counts when i'm using the K98. But as others have said, if you like close combat you have to get the proper kits for it.

Lies. Call of Duty Vanguard proofed that everyone had full auto rifles with red dots during WW2.

Jokes aside. The game is trying to portray the reality on the ground during WW2. Most people just had bolt-action rifles. Many of those designs that been used in WW2 been pre-WW1 era. On the german side the overall quality and equipment actually got worse during the war which is not even portrayed in the game.

This game was never supposed to be an arcade approach on WW2. Which is why you will never find many automatics in this game. Only gripe I have with the weapons in game is their accuracy. They are way too accurate compared to their real counterparts.
