FOV has nothing to do with this. EVERY game where players have different resolutions will have a disparity, it's not unique to Squad 44.
Squad is a bit unique, spotting enemies can be very difficult and there is nothing to help that, like in other games where you have 3d spotting icons, tracers, minimap icons or literally enemy name above their head ... so bigger screen and resolution is an advantage. With fov 90 you have to get closer to your screen to see ...
Sorry but all WWII fps games have this issue. HLL -- same issue, Battlefield -- same issue, COD -- same issue.
Yes, lowering FOV will make the "screen bigger", but it will also do that for the players with 4K, so there's still no gain of clarity for players with lesser resolution. All you really do by lowering the FOV is you close off situational awareness by narrowing the angle for which you can see. Realistic human vision is like 170 degrees - Squad 44 default is 90 degrees. That's almost half of reality. You want to make it smaller so we literally have tunnel vision. That's a terrible idea.
In addition, there are players with wide screen monitors that need to enlarge their FOV to match the screen properly. Forcing them to play at less than 90 degrees would basically make their game unplayable.
The better solution for you and players that have lesser resolution is to go buy better computers with better screens. I'm not sure why this is even an argument.
If you really want parity for all players then go play consoles. Everyone has the same hardware basically.
most games also change how things render and Focus view distance at long range
you can do exactly that in HLL to see farther and have an easier time shooting range with irons and even snipers.
This also used to be how Squad worked until they fixed the FOV
like they have in this game.
So I mean you make good points about situational awareness but it does work to the players advantage in most games the way FOV is done
and a larger monitor would work slightly better in this situation
you wouldn't get more FOV persay but in terms of open resolution your eyes might be able to pickup even more small differences in terrain, bushes etc.
I.E might be easier to see someone in a bush on a 27 inch monitor vs a 17 inch
monitor even if the 17 inch is 4k.
but the opposite is also in issue for that when the monitor gets too big
No dont force anyone, give them option, i meant lowering FOV by lowering the minimum number, now i think its from 90-120, change it to 60-120 so everyone will find a good fov for them.
I think "[ENG] CrimzonEmpire" explained it a little bit better than i did, thanks ... not sure if my english is that ♥♥♥♥ or people are just too angry here
This is what we called binoculars....
Do you have a brain or ...??
For real ....
Not everyone have them
Zelatur, The default is what it is. Everyone is used to it and to be honest, your post on the FOV is the only one I've seen in the 6 years I've been involved with the game. I don't think this is needed - and the general player population has not been clamoring for it. However, what is desirable for everyone is to get better computers that can power 1440 or 4K. I realize this is not obtainable for many but that's how PC gaming has always been - some players with budget rigs, some in the middle, and other with $$ for decked out machines. Up until last year I was toward the lower end but I made the decision to buy a new computer and it has been wonderful. I had 4K previous to the new computer but the machine was under-powered to get a decent frame rate and I often ran at 1440. Now I'm living the good life.
Playerbase is small so maybe noone cared to post about it, it could be one of the factor that drove some players away from the game ...
No, we're talking tens of thousands of people here over the years. So player base size is not the issue.
It kinda is? What if numbers will go down and noone will play it soon? Small player base indicate that there could be something wrong with the game, not with the players, but with the game.
Did anyone ever see someone complaining about Miniguns in Battlefield doing too little damage to infantry? Maybe not many notice such a details, or maybe noone cares to go to forums and start thread about it ... but it doesnt mean there is no problem that could be fixed or improved.
I like this game, it kinda reminded me of good old days playing Day of Defeat ... too bad its nothing like in the trailers ...
