Hell Let Loose:
Better graphics
More optimized
More beginner friendly(From a design perspective)
Progression system (Replayability)
More satisfying combat (subjective)
Squad-44:
Better Community (more microphones as a whole)
More realistic
Feel actually part of a squad/team due to better community
Map has a key for icons (They are still complicated but its useful)
Better soundscape (By a tiny bit, HLL has caught up massively.)
Plans for a tutorial
TLDR: Both are different games which scratch different itches, I'd recommend HLL for people entering this genre for the first time. Both dont have the best new player experiences
A rather negative aspect might be - at least depending on the perspective of the individual player - the increased amount of automatic weaponry, just to be fair
Better Community? I cannot say that for every part of it. Perhaps the english speaking community is rather friendly, but since i do not play very often on english speaking servers i cannot judge that. However, especially on german speaking servers people are really toxic - the moment you do not act the way people want you to act is the moment things get ugly. You are new to the game and are somewhat lost? You did not INSTANTLY inform your squad (leader) about it? Prepare for hate in case of you messing up - especially if the match is lost. Although HLL's community is not this much better, i have not faced the amount of toxicity ive already faced in PS / squad44.
More realistic? I just played it again. Just go into settings and turn down graphics. I think i do not have to add anything. Just google "warthunder ULQ" and you will get EXACTLY the same graphics. Foliage not rendering past 200m - and im talking about bushes as well - and therefore leaving you on the silver plate to the enemy the moment you try to use sight-cover.
No it is not funny to run through a dense forest, lay down to sneak somewhere as a sniper just to be INSTANTLY spotted because there is nothing like foliage to the enemy - and yes i had a sniper duel on 600m with a guy who thought he would have (good) cover ....
If im not mistaken you can get ... an advantage in HLL by reducing graphics? But at least you cannot go full cheat-mode like in PS ...
Running speed: SLOWEST speed in Squad 44 is the HIGHEST speed you can reach in HLL and in case someone adds "but stamina", just use your cantine and you will NEVER drop out of 80% stamina affecting sway / speed.
Thats a reason why the most used stance in squad 44 is - yes you are right - standing / running compared to HLL in which it is quite much an instant death sentence to run in combat zones.
I could further elaborate on map design, e.g. maps are just too big for 35 FIGHTING people per team in PS with the GIVEN mechanics (at the moment!).
Yes both are different games and i would follow this recommendation. I would add: IN CASE squad44 receives the same mechanics as squad, it might become better than HLL, but that is a big IF / question to be answered
Squad 44 sound is far better than HLL, or was, have they upgraded the sound in HLL, only played it a few hours and not in a while
In terms of ''quality'' in every aspect S44 does have a better quality than HLL, no doubt.
But S44 seems dead, constantly no comms from SL which ruins the experience, few active servers which you have to wait long queues.
What it lacks S44 is the playerbase in comparison HLL.
What it lacks HLL is what S44 has in terms of quality (graphics, assets, vfx, audio, etc).
Post Scriptum sounds are by far the best, ricochet of tanks for instance, the whizzing bullets past your face, or realistic traveling sounds.
Shooting in general is much better and much more real then HLL. In HLL is where you aim the bullet goes (in a straight line). While PS has bullet drop.
HLL is easy to pick up, easy to play and draws in players that love BF or COD style playing. Hench reason being for such a large playerbase. PS is and always will be unforgiving hard. And like everyone, we all like things to be easy because it is easy to do. That's why so many are a-holes... because it's easy to be one.
Sure, PS has it faults and it's by no means "perfect", but, PS is one of those games that we all know, there aren't many like this. Same goes for Project Reality. One of it's kind. Squad tried, but failed to be a successor to PR.
What's truly missing in PS(S44) is/are good leaders, or players that play as a TEAM. And that's mainly because of games like HLL, that do not endorse real team play but more tailored for self gratification.
I own both, but over 1200hrs on PS against 8hrs of HLL say's it all.... I'm biased AF
The most fun I had on HLL was not playing it as the developers intended, but treating it like a normal battlefield style game. Yeah I died alot. But I killed alot too. But my squad and team didn't like that. They were all tryhards. Who took the game so seriously, it felt like they had no real life outside of the game and used the game a surrogate for their lack of success and progress in real life. I know that feeling all too well. Because I did the same thing before, many, many times when I felt like my life stagnated.
That's one thing ive noticed about HLL. Being a medic just feels totally useless because everyone just redeploys after dying and of course correct if I'm wrong but dying doesn't matter in HLL compared to Squad 44 or Squad because there are no tickets. So people just redeploy right away after being killed.
It wont need graphics overhaul..
Good gameplay and bugfree experience is what brings people.
Terrain overhaul is vague term what you overhaul on all maps. Plus you know how long this takes?! Its all away from other critical development.
What you mean about map variety? Variety is really good and indicates theres healthy passion of comnunity and devs doing maps. And all of em are really good quality.
