Yes, but bots in Arma 3 require pathing, scripts, and AI in order to function. This is setup by the scenario designer. Otherwise they just stand there. Even with all of that the bots are rather vanilla in their capabilities when compared to human opponents. Sure, they can be programmed to be elite soldiers with uncanny accuracy even against moving targets but that doesn't translate into an immersive opponent that understands cover, flanking, and other combat tactics.
Imagine movement commands as a tank commander like in Operation Flashpoint.
Left, Right, Forward, Forward, Forward 😂😂
It's WW1 but the entire game is built around the use of bots.
That company also has a new game coming out with bot support.
If we're lucky they will eventually produce a WW2 era game with bot support like their other games. I think it would be great.
Yea people complaining about AI don't make sense, it's not like you would be forced to play with that enabled. But it gives the game 1) longevity 2) single player experiences and 3) potential. Only reason why I could think of Periscope having a firm No on this is lack of money and them being a small studio as is and arguably have already sold 95% (at least) of the volume they'll ever sell from their games (if things continue the way they are). Now don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoy PS and Squad and believe they have potential and if it's a monetary issue I'd bite the bullet and accept pay-to-own cosmetic options that are maintained and server-neutral. Things like a $1 US infantry helmet, a $5 MP38 skin, or a $10 tank camo pattern/FOB skin. "BuT tHaT bReAkS tHe ReAlIsM" fine, fine, for the die hards a graphics option to toggle cosmetics on and off on their end would be a more than suitable compromise. Even with the 500 most active players buying just $20 worth of cosmetics injects $10k into the company (which otherwise would not be an inward cash flow since they already have the game and Periscope doesn't charge for updates). With a minimum viable AI product ranging from $8-$15k in the game industry that would be enough money to give the Periscope team an AI framework with all the strict-AI stuff done and a framework for fine tuning to their liking without the need of a dedicated AI engineer. I mean ffs Easy Red 1 and 2 did it with way less money. But at the end of the day we're talking about a company who still relies wholly on community-hosting.
Imagine if when the OG BF1942 or SWBF2 came out there was no single player and no AI, online only, with no dedicated servers. Yea people would've still played the multiplayer when they could but they wouldn't still be as popular as they were long-term if it wasn't for the added single player experience. Also bots could bring life to the typically less populated servers to allow people to play with different rules, map rotations, and get out of the cycle of Easy or BR1.
Maybe if they finally get the game out of an alpha state and it starts picking up again it could work but in the current state its 100% a no go, maybe give it another 6 years LOL
