In regular matches, the tank commander is usually the most useless person on the team where he'll tell you to push up without infantry support. 96% of the armored squad leaders in this game, should be lined up and shot for deficiency.

The tank commander communicates with the driver and gunner what to do. You have the most view so you are the spotter. The driver sees only the front, the gunner only where the gun is aiming, the commander can see the sides of the tank.

So for example you tell you driver to take a right and stop behind an elevated position (driver doesnt see that first so you guide him) You tell your gunner you see a tank 2 o'clock, in the mean time you scan around and see infantry movement towards to tank and you command your driver to go backwards and tell your gunner to focus on the left.

And you can guide your gunner with the shots since you got a better view and zoom, so you can tell him to shoot more up or load HE.

That's for Red Orchestra,I did not know they were so bad in this game as well.Yes, the incompetent commander must be shot dead.

Well the thing is in regular matches you need to make yourself usefull as a commander. Since you don't know the other players it's harder to instantly take full leadership. So communicate alot with your team, i have had many matches that worked out good because we kept communicating.

Commander = Eyes
Gunner = Weapons
Driver = Legs

The eyes should guide the rest.

The most important part of the TC's job is to communicate with other SL's. Get them to tell you where enemy positions/tanks are, and when they need support with pushing/defending an objective.

Once you know that use the map to plan the most useful route to that target. Oh and new tankers, most tanks have a commander cupola that can be rotated by holding the CTRL key.

Finally don't forget to tell logistics where you need a repair crane for your tank. It's a long drive back to main.

Too many tank commanders take the driver or gunner position leaving one poor crewman with nothing to do other than spot so they often leave which makes the tank more vulnerable to enemy inf. The tank commander is then too preoccupied driving or firing to coordinate with the infantry SLs and is basically lone wolfing in a tank trying to ambush other tanks and enemy assets. Meanwhile the infantry have to push on alone and hope thier armor turns up when needed.

Not all tank commanders are bad and I’ve started to see some making an effort to provide more direct support to infantry. It’s incredibly effective when you bubble wrap the tank in infantry and move toward together. It’s a matter of trust and it needs work.
