Bad ping

Hello, Since a few days I experience a bad ping of about 300 - 350 ms. Same with "Squad" and "Hell Let Loose" If I check the ping outside Steam, I end up with 30 - 50 ms which is is ok. Is it possible that Steam itself brakes down the bandwith? Best regards, Deadpool

Hi JON45. In the game I see others with low ping. That would lead me to the idea that the problem is at my end. But I made speedchecks with various providers and my pings had been measured between 40 and 70 ms which is quite good, I suppose. There was lately a huge update of the steam client and I assume that the weak ping has been caused by that update. Maybe some of the devs takes a look into this issue. Try at different times to join a game and check the ping. Maybe the ping should be better if you play at times when others are not play normaly. I think it is problem due to the network connection of the servers.

Thanks for the replies. Probably right. But I live in Europe and there are not so many servers to join. Doesn't make sense to me to play once Eruopeans go to sleep.

Yeah - it's getting better after midnight. I think due to Corona, many people stay home and travel in the internet. Thus the bandwith for all is getting less....

Alien Isolation, The Forest, Planet Zoo, DayZ. Dont play lots of different games. But actually all my games are running perfectly but Post Scriptum sometimes has a FPS-problem, dunno why. I have reinstalled Post Scriptum. This morning it is running normaly. Dunno how it will be this evening. I have already thought there might be internet problems because of Covid-19? Many pple stay at home and ofc they all use the internet to play Post Scriptum ;-)

yes - it's certainly due to COVID. Many people are @ home. I'm out for the next days or weeks. It's pity but with such a high ping it doesn't make sense and endangers the squad if you can't defend yourself only with a huge delay. Still I wonder why my ping outside Steam is normal during the 'busy' time, while it's ten times higher in Steam. I don't know whether devs are looking in any posts but they should. Or is there any possibility to open a ticket?

I doubt it's COVID. People have been at home for weeks now and OP says this has just happened in the last few days. I get the same pings now that I got 1 week ago, 2 weeks ago, and pre-COVID.

Some ISP’s may throttle your speed for various reasons, one is to ensure everyone has a good connection at this time In particular, as its vital to access information and crucial services for vulnerable people. Many won’t see any difference though.

A ping of 250 in PS is fine in my experience. FPS is different though and depends more on your hardware, game settings and stability of the game itself. Some patch’s may introduce bugs so please report them if you can and help improve the game.

Hi Wabbit, I would agree if I wouldn't get pings of about 30-40 ms outside Steam. If I play BF3 via Origin, my ping is just 27 - 35.
