Multiplayer only.
"These games" are very rare and and in the last 15+ years you did find less than a handful of such type of games like Post Scriptum. The Last one was Iron Front based on Arma 2 and got released in 2012, but it did offer a single player campaign.
PS isn't a mod, it started off as a mod a long time ago but its not just a mod anymore.
Here dev team is very small, so it is not a surprise, game is pvp only.
However you can hope to have more solo game in incoming years. PVP is usually for young public, and video game is usually for rich countries.
Fact is rich countries become older and older. It is about 30 years now peoples live with pc game.
For all these reasons pvp customers will quickly become marginal among video game customers, if they are not already.
Roughly just be patient and meanwhile play something else.
My statement will be true, but is pretty much worthless.
It's still a mod.
Proof? Browse through the install folders and you'll find all of the Squad files that PS requires in order to run.
What you can do in Squad you can do in PS, the but idea is there, but there are a few things that are different, which these devs believe should be that way. IF it was a mod, why isn't PS sold as a DLC for squad? Why is PS $30 if its just a MOD?
You do realise that a mod doesn't have to play or look just like the parent game, and can have completely different mechanics, models and game modes, yes?
Case in point: Red Orchestra mod for UT
It likely isn't sold as a DLC for Squad because OWI specifically stated early on in development that there would be no paid DLC.
I can't answer specifically why PS is $30, but if I was to speculate, I'd venture to guess it's that high because of needing to pay OWI, Epic (unless OWI pays the 5% for PG) and the 30% or whatever is owed to Steam.
The fact still remains, you can browse through the install folders and find Squad files that are required for PS to run. Not just OWI's coding for VOIP, animation systems, game mode and such... but actual Squad files.
That's the sign of a total conversion mod that is packaged as standalone (just like Project Reality mod) not a game built from scratch merely using someone elses tweaks or engine changes.
How is that ever "Good"?
and in response to the "It's a mod" argument. You realize all games are mods? And all mods are games right?
Call of Duty is a "Mod" of Quake 2 (or 3 i can't remember). Unreal Tournament is a "mod" using the Unreal engine. Gears of War is an "Unreal mod"
I mean cmon... get real
