Squad 44

Squad 44

Better sound effects for incoming artillery, bullet cracks, whizzes?
The current explosion sounds are very immersive and realistic, along with the overall ambiance. 1 But the incoming artillery rounds would be more realistic if it made that hissing/whistle sound just before they struck. 2 Also the bullet cracks should be much louder and distinct like they are in Squad. I notice lots of tracer bullets/tank shells ricochet nearby me but don't make any whizzing noises when they're close by. My recommendation is improved incoming arty/mortar sounds, louder/realistic bullet cracks, and whizzes for ricochets

Mortars don't whistle you say? Reality tells different.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dXJmZnEWqg

But the Germans also had the "Anzio Anne" that was a 280mm shell saying hello to the Americans, yes I would love to hear that whistle as well, it would be a nice effect for artillery in this game, and an even better Italian theater.

Who cares about Squad, Post Scriptum isn't Squad, if these develolpers can add the bullet crack, it would be a very nice addition to the game hence bullets travel faster than the speed of sound... That's real suppression.

My hopes are in the gutter because the developers are French and its like they already surrendered to HLL before the war even started, sadly since HLL sounds like they're stuck in the 90's 8bit technology, but the immersion would be intense in Post Scriptum.

;D

I agree. would like to hear some more numerous, louder bullet crack variation for different caliber types, for all rifle/lmg calibers and ESPECIALLY for the 20mm FLAK guns. PS is great but it can be better with added sounds to increase the level of immersion.

As far as HLL, the gunshot distance sounds are somewhat better but everything else just doesn't seem on par with PS. I'm sure HLL doesn't even have bullet cracks but they do have a realistic swooshing/hissing sound for incoming ARTY

I just hope devs put lots more work and future updates into this game, because besides HLL it's one of the only current WW2 milsim type FPS games

1) incoming mortar rounds make a hissing noise. So do artillery rounds.
2)the bullet cracks are similar to Squad but lowered in volume tremendously. The only time they're loud is when you're being surpressed by a .50 Cal HMG, otherwise they're very quiet when suppressed by rifles or lmgs.

3) it seems you haven't played Squad V.13, because they added lots more bullet crack sounds and increased their volume. Playing Squad and PS, there's a huge difference in bullet crack volumes... especially now after the recent v13 update

I can't tell if you are being serious, do you really believe this? (hint: this wasn't mortar fire)

Mortar rounds don't break the sound barrier, and the only time you would hear the whistle of artillery rounds that do is if they went over your head.

You're confusing Sonic cracks of bullets with the subsonic hissing noises of artillery shells right before they impact. Supersonic bullets of rifles, lmgs, hmgs, and cannons over 1125 fps all create some sort of a bullet crack.

Artillery shells falling nearby are definitely subsonic and don't create a crack, but make a whistling or hissing noise as they fall. However most 122mm and 155mm artillery shells are supersonic once they're fired, but slow down subsonic before impact.

My main point still being PS would be more realistic and immersive with louder bullet cracks and artillery hissing, and of course whizzing noises for bullet ricochets

I wouldn't mind the bigger artillery shells getting some sound if you are away from them. As is the case in all of those examples. My only point was at the point of impact, you arn't going to hear it.

In Silky's video they are firing rockets, I don't who took that video and mislabeled it, but it's been around for a long time.

Mortars don't have the hollywood whistle to tell you take cover, maybe in extreme wind cases, as that whistle only happens as wind hits the fins of the mortar round, so its very situational and PS already has sounds for this. The sound you hear in HLL for their artillery is awful and extremely annoying.

I think Scrub has done an amazing job on the sounds of this game, even though he has added in some hollywood here and there.

Here is a good video from the actual impact site of 155 rounds:

How can a mortar whistle if it doesn’t have a mouth?

I meant artillery shells, not mortars. And yeah I've seen mortars impacts, you're right, they don't make the noise artillery shells do as they fly overhead.
