There is no such option. It's purely random.
If it's your first generation, just keep restarting till you get a girl (flower on the child's head)

The gender is random. For the first generation you can simply start over till you get the right gender.
But for the 2nd Generation and on I don't know of a way to reroll the gender so that you stuck with the gender you got. (Keep in mind most family in China where only allowed to have 1 child so it is actual kind of realistic that your stuck with the random Gender for the next Generation)
Ohh and something more from my expirience playing a girls make it easier in this game.

At least for me, it seems like it always swaps back and forth between male and female. They actually play slightly different so it is worth playing both.

You're guaranteed that the 2nd generation will be different to the first, after that it's random.

I'm on my 7th generation for me it always swapped back in forth. Just once i got two girls in a row.

I keep getting boys and it's like three times harder than a girl. I have to blow like sixty action points on one of these chicks per turn just to get them to possibly like me a little (and good luck telling what all they're supposed to be into, especially if you get song lyrics), meanwhile girls get a passive love system where after a certain point you don't even have to bother with dates any more.

Welcome to real life. Its far harder to flirt as a guy than a girl
