how to craft Blighted Soil?

I don't think you can craft it, you need to break it.
If you watch the top left corner you can see a "purity" meter, that is 0% when you join.
What you need to do is purify the biome in order to get the purified version of the current set of block.
First you need to obtain the Ivory pickaxe, from Ivory wood, I think you can craft that, or get from chest (honestly I barely remember how to get it, I just know it's pop in my inventory after a bit lol), with this pickaxe when its power is on, you purify the biome and you start get the purified version of the blocks and mobs too.
From there you can get the Purity pickaxe for purify faster.
Honestly it sucks that this is not explained at all, same for other biomes later (Sun for example) where I had to go in Wikia cause I was very confused on what to do

I tried that once and the purification wore off in less time than the cooldown of the pickaxe was...

Yeah, It sucks
You need purity enough to get the Purity pick, with purity pick you get more % every time.
You need combine it with the power that less the cool down between pick power (I forgot name), ascend your tree and use artifact, I got from 10 mom cool down to 8, it will less how much the purity goes down.
Eventually you can get to 100% purity.

Said between us, everything is pretty useless, I never even use purity picks anymore, not after the first time and after I got the achievement. You kinda not need it to go to next biomes
