Starfish bug?

has anyone noticed how hard it is to take out a starfish in ocean biome? i try to snowball it and all it gives is prismarine not starfish shards. is there a trick to it or is it bugged?

You could craft and equip the Coral pickaxe, should help a lot with that. Also, the Starfish is pink, like the shards, not like the other mob that looks like a sea mine with an eye in the middle i believe, that only drops Pearls and Prismarine.

The coral pickaxe definitely helps a lot. You can also craft them.

i saw those but they fly by so quickly

Yeah because they aren't supposed to be easy to get but with the coral pickaxe ability you can spawn bunch of them in a short time and try your luck with catching many of them at once. Goes a lot faster than waiting for the Starfish to fly by but you can also craft them in the furnace, like all the other items hard to get by with asteroid shards, gunpowder or circadian dust. It only takes time and resources to make it and if you aim to use the furnace often, to save time, you might want to use the furnace research in the Idle skill tree to improve chance of dupe crafts (crafting one but getting two) but i never used it before and can't tell if it's really worth it investing.
