VR Gaming Under Minimum Requirements (FNAF: Help Wanted Results Will Be Posted 28th May)
Hello there fellow steam users!

Like many of you I've been eagerly awaiting for the release of this game and thankfully I was able to find myself a full time job very quickly after leaving university and was able to buy myself a headset. I know that a lot of FNAF fans aren't of working age so they don't have the luxury of being able to get a VR headset right now though I'm sure most of you do have a decent enough computer and with enough saving up will be able to get yourself a VR headset. Some of you may even have enough money right now and are thinking of biting the bullet and buying yourself a VR headset but are unsure how it will run on your machine (this thread is for you guys).

Unfortunately, VR headsets do require a more than decent gaming rig (supposedly). My gaming computer is under the minimum requirements for the Rift though what I found out is that actually, my computer can run VR decently.

My specs:
Windows 10 Home
Graphics card: AMD Radeon R9 280x
Processor: AMD A8-6600K APU with Radeon HD Graphics
Installed RAM: 8GB
System type: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

As you can see, my graphics card is still decent enough for modern gaming (usually with lowered graphic settings, usually I can get away playing games on a medium graphic setting) however what I was surprised to learn about is that most VR games seem to work fine so far and I'm sure that many of you have similar specs to mine.

Now, I'm not saying that FNAF VR will work on specs that are similar to mine (this we will find out about tomorrow) but what I am saying is that basically everything I wanted to play does work:

Batman VR:
This works surprisingly smoothly. I did have one issue though (which may be more to do with me). The issue was that depending on where I was standing, the game was in black and white. To get around this I decided to play the game seated and sit myself where the game wouldn't appear black and white.

Elven Assassin:
I haven't played much of this game, only a tiny amount to see if it works. It did. The game ran fine, didn't notice any frame drops or anything of that nature.

FALLOUT 4 VR:
Yeah, this game is jittery as heck. I seem to be having a lot of the common issues that people are having with this game so I'm sure there is a way for me to fix it, I just can't really be bothered at this point.

Future City Coaster:
This is only a tech demo. It works. Nothing more here.

Lucky's Tale:
This is one of the games that comes with the headset and it works quite well. I did notice a few frame drops here and there but it wasn't much and was very far and few in between.

MineCraft:
I'm having a weird issue where this game won't load up… Weird.

Robo Recall:
Works fine. Like other VR games you may notice a slight drop in frames here and there but other than that it was smooth for the most part.

Skyrim VR:
Only played the tutorial/control set up thing. It worked fine from what I could see.

Vive Night's At Freddys (A fanmade VR remake of the first FNAF game):
Worked just fine.

Out of the nine games, only two didn't work (however a quick google search will show you that these games have problems regardless of graphics card and that the issues I've experience are common and as stated, I could probably get these two games to work if I bother with any of the work arounds) and only one game didn't work as intended (Batman VR which I had my own work around for anyway). I would say that only two out of nine games not working is pretty good going (with those two games having fix around I'm sure).

As stated before, if your computer is under the recommended specs like mine then I'm not saying FNAF VR will work for you (or me). What I am saying is that maybe you don't need to be looking at upgrading anything just yet ;)

Tomorrow I will find out how FNAF VR: Help Wanted will run on my headset and results will be posted here.

In the meanwhile, if you want me to test out any free games to see how they will run then feel free to ask and I'll do it when I have time after work. I also have a couple of other games that I haven't yet tested (these are: Dead and Buried, Detached and Battle of Kings VR, yet again if any of you want to know how they run on my machine then feel free to ask and I'll take a look when I have time).

Reminder:
If you are going to bite the bullet and buy a VR headset, you need to be able to have a HDMI port for your headset and three spare USB slots for the headset and two sensors assuming you are going for the now older model which will work with FNAF VR without issue (assuming your computer meets the game's specs).

EDIT: My headset is the Rift (not the recently released ones).

What? The new Rift-S requires just 1 USB-3 port and 1 Display-port.

Yes.. And? You can't buy the old Rift anymore, so if you buy a new headset (as she says in her post), you only need 1 USB3 and 1 Displayport.

My bad, I completely forgot that they released a new one.

For clarification: I'm talking about the old(er) one which as far as I'm aware is what's required to play FNAF VR since the new one might not/probably won't/doesn't work with it yet.

I purchased my Rift second-hand a month ago. You can still get them as long as your willing to buy them used
I brought my one new a couple of weeks ago and it's the now older version. I brought it from Argos, unsure which one other stores sell though I know that a couple of places might still do the one I have which will work with FNAF VR without issue.

You made it even more confusing now with this line:
"EDIT: My headset is the Rift (not the recently released one without a wire)."
Thats the Oculus Quest and it can't play PC games at all (well, you can stream them, but that it's not like the real thing).

I thought they released another one as well? (or at least are about to). Unless that one includes a wire then oops my bad. I don't know much about the new one. Anyway I made another edit.

Oculus Rift-S (replaces Rift-Cv1) and Oculus Quest (standalone wireless headset that runs Android).

The Rift S is mostly wireless. It has a Wire to the PC and that’s it
Ah, thanks for the info.

As does the normal Rift dude :) It just needs more usb for the sensors.
Both Rift and Rift-S has 1 cabel with 1 usb3 and 1 HDMI for Rift, and 1 USB3 and 1 Displayport for Rift-s :)

I know man, I own a Rift. I’m just saying a Rift-S has less wires than a regular Rift

But it hasn't. They BOTH have 1 cabel with 2 outputs. It's just that the old rift needs 2 more USB for sensors :-) Now, that's picky, but still I'm correct ;-)
