Is there a way to allow background audio to play when the game program isnt the focus?
My son really likes playing this and most VR games allow sound while minimized on the desktop so I can do work or play other games while he's doing VR. This one does not and I'm not sure if there's a 3rd party program or setting I can set to allow for this. Any help would be appreciative.

Yes, there is!
Make sure your game is closed, and If you edit engine.ini with notepad in %localappdata%\freddys\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\
then put the following at the bottom of the file:

[Audio]
UnfocusedVolumeMultiplier=1.0

Start the game, it worked for us!

This is very useful! You can find the engine.ini for pretty much any steam title. Once you have the game audio outputting even when not in focus you can use a program such as CheVolume to output the game audio to the VR headset's headphones and then you can have audio from Youtube or Netflix by example come out of your other speakers.
