unSteam a game that Steam no longer supports?
PoN was hijacked by Paradox and earlier this year, it gave up it's rights as publisher to sell this AGEOD developed game. And due to that, Steam no longer supports this title.

I know there are ways to patch a Steam linked game without using Steam but it requires extra steps to complete. The DLCs however cannot follow the same steps.

My question is, since Steam no longer sells or has ties to this title, how can I unSteam my PoN??? With a liberated PoN, I'd be able to fully update and acquire all it's DLCs without complications directly from the developer.

Any idea why the game was removed in the first place?

Paradox, the publisher, gave up commercial rights for this title early 2013, and Steam will not distribute games directly from AGEOD, the developer. A shame because AGEOD games are superior strategy games.

In the end, however, the consumer loses since Steam won't release what is no longer theirs.

Why won't Steam publish AGEOD? Are they wanting them to go through Greenlight hoops? Has AGEOD sought to put their games on Steam?

That is a shame because these were great titles.

AGEOD is superior in strategy gaming I agree (far better than Paradox imo). For reasons unknown to me, however, Steam will not publish their games. AGEOD's top guy has asked I believe more than once but I do not know why they were denied. I hope Steam reconsiders.

I found a recent post from the devs at the AGEOD forums. They said that they were denied because Steam said the games were "too old".

Seems odd because the games data is available already on the servers for people who own Rise of Prussia and Pride. I doubt whoever is denying them has any idea of any of this. Steam is notoriously bad about being ignorant of facts like these.

I'll try to voice my opinions to Valve as much as I can. Doubt it will help but it seems so arbitrary and out of touch to deny a game coming back on Steam simply because it's old.

I thought PoN was removed in part because Ageod no longer wanted to be "Paradox France" and preferred to go their separate ways after March of Eagles was released.

Just guessing here, but I think Paradox released publishing rights as a sign of goodwill since Ageod wasn't happy at Paradox. (If Paradox held on to the rights, even if totally legal to do so, it probably would have been bad for public relations and scared away other potential developers from publishign with them.)

As for why PoN or any DLC was removed from purchase from Steam or gamersgate rather than just keep them there but change the publisher name... I think it's mainly because Ageod didn't like supporting gamers who only bought these games during publisher-wide discount sales or as part of cheap bundles, and only complained on the forums.

I was researching this issue earlier this year and I think Ageod said in their forums that the cost/benefit just wasn't worth it and they'd prefer to be a small niche game shop rather than try to go mainstream.

Personally though, and I know others will disagree with me, I really wish Ageod didn't do this and stayed with Paradox. Where say Pride of Nations 2 could have been a larger-budget mainstream-ification the way CK2 and EU4 were for Paradox. I mean, I'd love to play a turn-based game as complex and detailed as PoN, but with all the polish, documentation, and humor of a Civ5.

(Warlock 2 will scratch that itch though, so no big deal, and ultimately Ageod should do whatever makes them happy. So more power to them!)

As for why Ageod can't publish on steam directly now, after separating from Paradox, I have no idea. I would think that if if Ageod they really wanted back on steam, they'd go the greenlight route.

They are infact going the Greenlight route: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=93111493&searchtext=AGEOD

EDIT: Removed baseless assertion, thanks Slitherine/Ageod

It's just unfortunate to those who own the incomplete versions of this game and can't purchase the DLC

Go to AGEOD website and find out how you can get these wonderful games.

My PoN works fine, with all the DLC. I am guessing I bought it all before the collapse?? Kind of weird though. Its like the Total War series.. On steam I seem to only beable to find certain games in the series, but incomplets at that.. Like where is Empire, and Napolan? or even the earlier titles to shogun, and rome? I used to see them available, and infact have some of them in my wishlist, but the links lead to errors now, and you can't find them on the search.. Its weird to me how this happens a lot to games?

I think Matrix Games bought the rights to distribute some of AGEOD's games so that may have something to do with it.

when you see all of the garbage Steam has for from .50 to 5 dollars it is infuriating to think they would just refuse to sell these historically accurate strategic wargames, simply because they consider them too old. Just look at the trend Steam seems to be fostering with all this retro simplistic garbage they clutter the store with and they have the audacity to shun a fine company like AGEOD maker of Birth of America 1 and 2 , Civil War 1 and 2 , and Pride of Nations with all it's dlc which I own and which barely loads every time I try to play it , so the jerks are not supporting it , well just what the hell are we long time customers and users of Steam who have grown attached to and paid good money for these games just to be told the bridge has been burned , sorry no refunds , no returns. Typical greedy aholes. what are we supposed to do? I guess they think we should just uninstall it and forget about it? NO WAY IN HELL! LOL

Slitherine sells all sorts of very good wargames , and Battlefront.com also and then as mentioned , Matrix games, which is somehow linked with Slitherine, who sells Battle Academy.

I would like to see many of these types of wargames modernized somehow and useing the resources of the PC more especially graphical representations , not all of us enjoys reading a little tool tip box with micro statistics in it for every unit represented although it is important to know these things , you would think one of these game makers would come up with some innovative new way to express these historically accurate grand strategy wargames, CA maker of the Total War series is not exactly the best they seem to rest on the abstract and forget about detail and historical accuracy as long as they come close to it they put it out there , maybe in between a Total War like game and an Ageod /Paradox like construct would be more intuitive and expressive conveying with sight as well as sound in a multi media way , It does sound like a daunting task maybe that is why it would be worth doing if it succeeded it would make someone rich.

The good news is its back! Last year Ageod joined the Slitherine Group and today we are updating Pride of Nations to v1.04 and putting it back on sale. We'll also be bringing Rise of Prussia Gold in a couple of weeks time. Slitherine have 1 steam release a week roughly for the foreseeable future.

I wanted to clear up one thing, Ageod hold nothing against gamers who bought their games at a discount. They were very upset at Paradox for allowing the games to be sold at a $1, but this in no way means they were upset with the gamers. It was not their fault - they were just taking up a deal that was too good to be true. Ageod appreciate every gamer who took the time to spend their money and play the game and we look forwards to keeping you updated with patches and more games in the future!
