Keyboard shortcuts guide
This topic is mainly focused on helping new Darkest Hour players. I am already familiar with other Paradox games (mainly Victoria 2, EU4 and HOI4), but when entering Darkest Hour one encounters a barrier regarding an old interface design (way to pause the game, map modes, etc). I enjoy DH more in aspects like content, immersion and tactics compared to HOI4 so any help to make the game easier to play is welcome.

Searching the forums the first recommendation is to configure the Buttons.txt document to define the "space" key as a way to pause the game. Totally recommended for a smooth experience. However, when trying to search for further recommendations I could only find that one, someone correct me if I'm wrong. Therefore, I want to share my key configuration for a better experience.

Keyboard shortcuts and the reasons:

Pause game/
Space" key: The most comfortable setting in Paradox games.

Map modes/
"q" key: Terrain map, essential to see the terrain type and prepare your attack or defense strategies.
"w" key: Political map, no further explanation.
"e" key: Weather map, to know the situation of rain, mud, snow, etc, in the provinces. ¡¡¡don't let the winter play against you!!!
"r" key: Economic map, to know the most important places in terms of resources and industry, either your own or the enemy.
"t" key: Map of revolts, to know the percentage of unrest in each province.
"y" key: Supply map, mainly to know which units do not receive supplies and suffer attrition.
"z" key: Diplomatic map.
"x" key: Victory points.

Other important functions/
s" key: To activate and deactivate the movement arrows of your units (attack, support, movement, retreat).
d" key: Activate the battles in progress tab to know the situation in a quick and general way.

These last two keys are very important to deactivate several of the incoming messages that flood the screen without losing any information.

The proposed configuration is based on my preferences but can be adapted to the tastes of each one. The main thing is to offer a comfortable experience to play Darkest Hour and help players who are just getting into this game (as in my case).

Pd 1: Any recommendation to improve my configuration is accepted.
Pd 2: With this keyboard configuration it will not be possible to rename units.
Pd 3: For the configuration to work you must edit the Buttons.txt document in the folder corresponding to the version or mod we play. Ex: Darkest Hour A HOI Game/Mods/ Darkest Hour Full/ Config/ Buttons

Great post, just adding on for anyone who might be reading that to add these hotkeys, go to the proper mod folder. I.E. if you're playing Darkest Hour Full, go to that folder in Mods. Go into the config folder and open the txt document called "Buttons." From there, you can add a line below the "bitmap" line for each button by hitting enter. To actually activate the hotkey, write "shortcut = q" in that new line, with q being whatever you want the hotkey to be.

Also F11 will take a screenshot and save it in your mod's folder. Handy if you're making AARs.
