Mountain Troops even worth building?

Is there a reason why their atk/def/mov terrain modifiers are so underwhelming in this? The single best one is maybe that they have +10% movement in mountain terrain compared to regular infantry. Every other case with hills, forest, ect., they simply have a +5% advantage over infantry. Pretty unimpressive. Combine that with them taking longer to build, can only attach one brigade.. they don’t seem worth it.

They are... situational. ^^
The snow and mountain/hills bonuses give them a purpose, but they are weaker than INF+2brigades (especially in long run). However for nations with lower manpower and /or having to deal with a lot of blizzards teh MTN could be an option. Otherwise they are flavor troop to be enjoyed :D

My opinion’s changed after looking up some numbers. I was peeved at first because vanilla HOI2 has MTN unit modifiers typically around +25% or +50% over INF. But in vanilla HOI2 MTN costs 50% more manpower to build. So I guess the values in Darkest Hour.. don’t feel so unreasonable then.

You should build a few if you're planning to invade Norway or something. Not really useful for the steppes of Russia or French countryside.

It is worth it if you will be fighting in mountains a lot, also if you are playing a nation where you have plentiful IC but are tight on manpower it makes sense to build elite units like MTN instead of regular INF.

If you going to ended up fighting on mountain at some points, yeah wouldnt hurt to have some. Using regular infantries, will only chew it up even more due to manpower loses. So if you have a situation that is strategic spot or location and want to defend it, mountaineers is a way to go. Try add some forts along with it would be hard to crack it, unless attack in many directions.

Play the 1914 MOD as the Austrian-Hungarians. They prove their usefulness in Serbia and Italy. Brigades are different. Horse, engineers and AA can be used with die BergerInf.

Useful for norway and the area around Baku as Germany. Japan and China can use them quite well also as China is full of freaking mountains
