What's your favor country to play with?
I am pritty new to this game but i think i have seen 1 thing already. Germany is actually the country i believe is the most fun to play. More drastic happenings, prob. best tec and coolest troops etc. As i said i am new but i believe i have seen that pattern already. Cool to hear your experiences. Hope i get some feedback.....

I like 2nd rate powers because they are easier to manage. Canada, Brasil or Argentina if I want to stay out of the way and get involved whereever I feel like, Australia if I want the Pacific Theater, Nationalist Spain, Hungary, or Romania if I want to be in Europe. Italy is good too, even though it's a major power, it's very much manageable.

It'd be nice to play a superpower, but every time I start as US, UK, Japan, etc, I just look at their starting roster of units that I'd have to reorganize and just go "screw it, too much work". And every time I get Germany to the point of attacking the USSR I get bored while forming the lines in preparation. :)

Nationalist China is also a lot of fun. If you can with the war against Japan early on, you can really change history. Communist China is even more interesting, but very hard to pull off, since you start so small.

cool i am not that advanced.Only reorganising i do is choose those close and take support attack and use 1 or 2 for main. Might be when troops get to much damaged so it a chance they dissapeare. I can clearly see your logic. All is fun when your new lol

The USSR is a fun game. You need to rapidly industrialize and then produce an army as you're being invaded.

Nice, will try that later. Actually a little hard with the fighting, Then i get spammed but with a little importent messages. Gets rather confusing.I have taken away trading etc pop ups so game runs well in peace time. Still lots to learn. But anyway games intend to be cooler when they are new so no complains lol. Cool comment

It depends on my mood, but in general I do prefer to play one of the major powers depending on the scenario and mod. Playing a small country with nothing to do than sit and watch isn't my cup of tea.

I have played Germany many times simply because it more or less is the country that the game centers around. Plenty of events and the action quickly gets going. It is difficult to get bored.

I also like Soviet Union for being straightforward in strategy. You know the germans will be coming sooner or later, so just prepare with troops and create more industry. Then defend your homecountry for the first few months and counterattack when the germans are stalled by mud and siberian cold.

USA is my choice for when I feel like saving the world from Totalitarianism and in general just want an ordinary outcome of WWII. Just sit back and let the first few years go past. Make a cup of coffee or tea while the world burns, then step in when Imperial Japan makes the mistake of screwing with your Pearl Harbor-base. Wipeout their navy, conquer their islands while you prepare to save Europe from the nazis. Then invade in Normandy, rush to Berlin, secure Europe, then atomic bomb Japan and end the war. Then continue with New World Order 2 mod and play out the cold war.

I don't think Hearts of Iron in general is meant to be played with minor nations. You are usually to weak to be able to do anything. I tried playing as New Zealand and that was a dread to do. I could barely build or research anything not to mention that it barely has any events. Boredom.

Still in my first game playing as Soviet Russia, it is very daunting having to manage so much territory and so many units, and juggling diplomacy with all those nations that share a border while trying to keep an eye on the wider world is very hard, but I am having fun, I guess as my first game I will end up getting destroyed, but that's fine, it's all about learning how the game works right now, I am one of those players who don't read manuals haha, I prefer to learn as I play.

i plan to play as Britain and Germany eventually, but I also like the idea of the guy who posted at the top playing as a smaller 2nd tier nation so I'm tempted to try that next, maybe Spain.

Cool game

and yes i have taken the long road. 28 years if i remember right so i need to play a fun nation, gonna stick with it for some time. So glad i tested a little first. If i took a shorter 1 it would be foolish.....
