We didn't want to alter Lem's iconic characters, because they are spot-on, but at the same time we had to adapt the plot to a specific medium, which is a game. We wanted to implement a few more things in the narrative, to make gameplay more intriguing and exciting. That’s why we needed to form new characters (although players will meet some of the old ones as well…).
We didn't want people to confuse Rohan (the novel's main character) with our protagonist, so we decided to create Yasna. She has a different personality than Rohan and it adds much to the gameplay - many phenomena she discovers are perceived and interpreted through an astrobiologist's lens.
I can't wait to see how you handle the Cyclops fight and even just the flies themselves!
Not that I mind, I do like me some good British accents.
Well, that's a bit funny to read, when your first post is about how diversity in general prevents an immersive experience for you.
Well, thats a long way of saying "put a chick in it and make her gay!!!!". We get it, everything has to have a chick in it now a days. Its annoying because most of the time the gender and sexual orientation does the heavy lifting for the characters and story. So the question is, did you make a character that stands on her own, or is she yet another plank that we are supposed to cheer on so we dont get called names?
Art isnt supposed to have rules. You create what comes of your free expression, not what someone else dictates you make. Something a lot of creative types have seemingly lost. I guess we will find out. Hopefully you did the work, and the character actually is interesting and worthy of our time. And someone who was born of creativity and not just a check list according to modern day social media demands.
You do realise that thats been the mantra of every grifter over the past 10 years right? "I need a woman character, so I can feel represented!!!!". And now here we are, with the pendulum swung too far the other way.
If representation is important, as we keep on getting told, then its important to everyone. Right? So Anita Sarkeesian cant relate to Joel and needs Abby to be the lead of the last of us part 2, then so it goes that the other way is also true.
Assassins creed got it right, give the player the choice and everyone is happy. Everyone is represented and everyone can enjoy the story.
There no point bashing people for saying the same thing that others have said that created this annoying world we live in where "diversity" only means not men.
Funny you should mention that considering the latest assassins creed did in fact NOT give a choice. You had to play as a guy.
Anyways, while i do prefer player choice, it does however limit the writers ability to make a more in depth character. So sometimes a set protagonist is the better way to go, and that might be a male or female char.
It's an extremely well done game, first Unreal Engine game in a while that doesn't stutter or run like crap, the story is good so far, visuals amazing, was standing there checking out the sky and the wind swirls coming of the ledges and stuff, was enjoying driving around checking things out, then the mystery of whats going on there, I don't see how anyone can dislike the game, but whatever.
