The game breaking bug was that when you finished the Mystes O’ Tyme Marsh Guybrush would row back to shore, but never dock. He would just endless row into the shoreline.
The only way to fix it was start a new game from scratch and hope that one isn’t bugged too or load a save from just past that point.
I don’t know if there’s a patch for the original pc version. Last time I played Escape I didn’t find one, I just found a bunch of posts about the Mystes O’ Tyme.
there is a patch for PC Version, see here[www.worldofmi.com].
I don't know if it adresses the bug you mentioned, but in my last playthrough with patch 1.1 I didn't encounter this bug.
When you do get that bug though it’s a pain in the butt. I had to download a save off the internet last time and then redo some puzzles and I think the save was missing something I did on my own save.
as far as I know the best free software to use this with is the https://quickandeasysoftware.net/software/escape-from-monkey-island-setup website
unless steam somehow patched this or added it, as I don't have the steam game, I recommend anyone trying to play this on a high resolution install that with the game as its the best software to use
but ignore this if steam has somehow made a better exe
for the bug: I think patch 1.1 fixed this, but its always best to keep muilti saves, you have like 20 pages worth
and this to the fact I would not save or restore when doing the myst o time, your best bet is to save it before the puzzle, and do it in one go, I can only guess steam handles ports like this better then in the early 2000s

The biggest difference between PC and PS2 versions is the chart you get for Monkey Kombat. Aside from that, it's all little graphical changes. The font is different. Some backgrounds look nicer in PS2 while some look nicer in PC. Not all characters in PS2 look over at the action. Things like that.
