I can't really determine what's causing your failure because there are so many missions at Hanzhong, but if Wang Yi is involved it might have to do with stopping Ma Chao from doing something. But it could be any failable sub mission really.
Now the good news for you: People figured out how to solve your situation without starting the chapter anew: As soon as you load your game, open the map and teleport far away fast. This should reset any missions. Then return to where you were and try again.
Thank you for your suggestion. Sadly, I was not able to test your method, because at the second I load my save, it would trigger the failure. I have tried many times but failed to enter the map window, so I have to restart the chapter. That's why I said it should be a bug.
Aww that sucks man... they should have made a smarter auto save system that does not only keep and overwrite one single slot but saves several in a row and deletes them only later. Most games do that.
I assume you stopped to kill Pang De? At the beginning of the mission Wang Yi starts to run along the wooden path along the mountain. You goal is to defeat her before she reaches the area around the gate at the end of that path where Ma Chao is fighting. You have to sprint/ride after her as soon as the mission starts and keep knocking her backwards on the path because she just keeps stubbornly walking forwards and can heal herself several times (she refers to it as using up supplies).
Anyway by killing Pang De first you don't have enough time to catch up with her and at the same time a save point is being created because Pang De got defeated. Thus you are stuck. I had the same happen to me. But if you have a moment of time before you fail you can use the method of teleporting away. If not you have to restart the chapter.
