So a 13 year old girl travels hundreds of miles to stalk a half naked fat guy?
Hmmm... Sounds legit.

I guess Zhang Fei did not show her the part where he beats his own soldiers, and be drunk all the time... He sure knows how to get the girls...

Lol only Japan could turn the victim into the creepy stalker haha...

Given the folklore surrounding Xiahou Ji I'm amazed they ever thought it would be a good idea to include her. I know she and Dong Bai are the Dynasty Warriors BLAST contributions and were added simply by virtue of their popularity, but they really should have left Ji on the mobile platform and picked someone else... Because while I don't buy half the 'history' presented in RoTK, especially since it contradicts the historical record quite often, every story involving her doesn't paint a very nice picture.

It was really weird playing Xingcai and having her mother being a teenage girl.

Honestly I wish they had scrapped her and added Lady Bian/Bian Shi or Lady Wu/Wu Gotai instead. Both lived for a good portion of the events that happen in DW, and they both would go a long way in filling out Wei and Wu respectively.

Also Cao Cao and Sun Jian legitimately loved their wives and the feelings were reciprocated, which is a whole lot more than I can say for Zhang Fei and Xiahou Ji depending on the legend being cited... Plus look at their designs! Their BLAST designs are pretty damn nice.

There are no strong evidence of her being r@ped.

As mention on this strong point,
"It's true that Zhang Fei basically abducted Xiahou. However, it's not quite honest to say all their children were born out of rape. There is evidence that Lady Xiahou was actually quite well-treated for a niece of an enemy general. When Xiahou Yuan was killed on Dingjun Mountain, Lady Xiahou pled with Liu Bei to grant Xiahou Yuan a proper burial, and that was granted. Liu Bei would have no other reason to grant a request like this if she was just some woman Zhang Fei raped, but Zhang Fei had no other recorded wives - she was the only one. Even the record of her abduction used the word 妻, which meant Zhang Fei took her as a principal wife, not a concubine. When Xiahou Ba defected from Wei to Shu, Liu Shan happily brought up the fact that they were actually related (his wife is the daughter of Zhang Fei and Lady Xiahou). Certainly Liu Shan didn't think this was something shameful for the Xiahou. Also consider tangentially how Sun Shangxiang married Liu Bei but then managed to go back to Wu. Why hadn't Xiahou Yuan or the Caos arranged for Lady Xiahou to come back?"

To be entirely fair on this end...

"In Empress Wu and Zhao Yun's scrolls, Sun Quan heard of Liu Bei's actions in the west and he sent a large group of ships to retrieve his sister. Though she tried to take Liu Shan with her, Zhuge Liang ordered Zhao Yun and Zhang Fei to retrieve their lord's young heir. The two generals were able to intercept Lady Sun's party at Yangtze River and Liu Shan was returned with them. The Qing Dynasty compilations reason that it was a kidnapping in 215, but the time frame which it took place contradicts other historical records. After the event, Liu Bei quarreled with Lady Sun and sent her to live in the western side of his public domain.

After Liu Bei conquered Yi Province, he broke off relations with her and she returned to her homeland of her own accord."
http://koei.wikia.com/wiki/Sun_Shangxiang

From the DW wikia, and the bottom is the wikipedia page for Lady Sun with sources.

"Around 211, Liu Bei left Jing Province on a campaign to attack the warlord Liu Zhang in Yi Province (covering present-day Sichuan and Chongqing) while Lady Sun remained behind in Jing Province. Liu Bei knew that his general Zhao Yun was a serious and conscientious person, so he specially put Zhao Yun in charge of domestic affairs (in Jing Province). When Sun Quan heard that Liu Bei had travelled to Yi Province, he sent a ship to fetch his sister back. Lady Sun attempted to bring Liu Bei's son Liu Shan, who was born to Liu Bei's first wife Lady Gan, with her back to Sun Quan's territory. However, Zhao Yun and Zhang Fei, another of Liu Bei's generals, led their men to intercept her along the way and retrieve Liu Shan.[10] Nothing was recorded in history about what happened to Lady Sun after she returned home."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lady_Sun

RoTK itself complicates matters with it's Shu favoritism, but in that tale of the incident Lady Sun was tricked back to Wu under false pretenses by her brother Sun Quan due to news of her mother's illness. The "managed to get back to Wu" part of that quote ignores the /why/ that happened. Which depending upon whether you believe historical or fictional texts, ultimately comes down to scheming on someone's part.

Likewise the relationship between Shu and Wu, while scheming and untrusting as seen above, was a /lot/ better than the relationship between Wei and Shu at that time regardless of whether you ply the historical or romanticized texts. A situation between reluctant allies is not comparable to a situation involving two nations in active war, and with one of the hostages being a valued member of a high standing clan within the enemy nation.

I'll finish by saying that frankly it's hard to say what really happened. Shu was terrible about keeping official records compared to the other kingdoms, especially during the early years when it had no foothold and Liu Bei was a wanderer. Likewise it's been used both as the agent of propaganda both positively /AND/ negatively for around 1700 years ny numerous powers depending upon how they wish to present their right to rule.

Luo Guanzhong himself who wrote "Romance of Three Kingdoms" was alive during the Yuan and Ming dynasties, over a 1000 years after the fact - and the historical chronicles that he used were written mostly during the Jin dynasty. Who I will say had every reason to throw their own messy hands into the already murky pot.

In essence there's /no/ way of knowing without having experienced it ourselves, especially in regards to someone from Shu who could very well be receiving the baffoon treatment given how his actions brought down his brothers towards the end of their lives. My issue with her inclusion acknowledges all of this, but still side eyes the controversy all the same and wishes they had chosen another character instead. There's no shortage of historical/fictional women who could have been plucked.

Hell if you want the new women to be from Shu, there's Ganshi, Mishi (Liu Bei's original wives) /and/ Fan Yufeng. The former two were real, the latter is a Chinese Opera creation - though the series isn't a stranger to including secondary material or characters that were created entirely for dramatic effect.

http://koei.wikia.com/wiki/Fan_Yufeng
Plus she's legit /the/ most popular character from BLAST according to polls, so she arguably has more right to be here given that Xiahou Ji and Dong Bai are both BLAST transplants.

Think the will introduce more Characters in future Series.
I mean each new series they add more characters from the ROTK themselves.

Koei doesn't really want to address the whole polygamy thing, so Ganshi and Mishi will almost certainly never be included. I'd honestly be very surprised if Fan Yufeng gets added just because the episode in the novel is kind of jarring to modern readers, and may have been similarly jarring for contemporary readers as well (Luo Ben pretty clearly had some women issues). Earlier in the novel, both Liu Bei and Cao Cao approve of Liu An killing his own wife and then feeding her meat to Liu Bei, with Cao Cao recompensating him enough to effectively buy a new dowry. Yet, we're also supposed to be moved by Zhao Yun respecting the chastity of a widow enough and his disgust towards technical and tenuous incest to strike his newly-sworn brother. Granted, they could just take the storyline of the opera, but it would still leave something of a bad taste, not unlike the treatment of Xiahouji.

@Shampoo concerning the "half naked fat guy".

a) Men (and women) were judged differently in their appearance and in what makes a person attractive throughout the ages and different cultures. Just because you see a guy as just fat doesn't mean everybody everywhere ever did.

b) You already came to the conclusion yourself in your other topic that OF just takes the names and adds random looks. We can't possibly know how Zhang Fei really looked like. Maybe he was fat, maybe he was not. Maybe people thought he was ugly, maybe they thought he was pretty.

True, very true, I had forgotten about Liu An entirely.

Wouldn't he have a main wife? Or at least have one show up as an NPC.
