"Rat King" Mission
I am at my end for patience, this mission is killing this game for me. I've tried looking up guides and everything for it and yet I still get killed at the start, as if suddenly all the guides are null and void. Didn't complete the Rafnir mission if it matters, and why would it as i'll have to come back to this if i want to advance. I feel this is such terrible game design as your not even given a chance to get a building up before all the peasant killers show up. Am I the only one stuck on this mission?

Edit: Surprisingly still getting posts here despite this being posted in 2016 (though i'll admit 2016 me was an @$$).

I've long since beaten Majesty 2 and its expansions so if any came here for help here's the breakdown. Rat King and Fafnir are your skillgate missions with Rat King punishing you for the mentality of building around your castle and forcing you to build away from it (about a Market and halfs worth), be it South East or South West. Slam down Ranger's Guild, Market+Health Potions, and a Tower to help collect taxes from your isolated buildings. From there Cleric and Warrior guilds to keep your heroes alive and give you bit of a sturdier frontline. With your tax collectors safe and economy going you can move to stabilize the area around your castle with towers. Start with one corner and only build one at a time, and expand with a blacksmith as you go. Once the towers are up you've stabilized and can then proceed as normal with expansion till you win.
Good Luck Your Majesty!

Nope, Its called Strategy.

Rafnir is alot harder than Rat king anyway. Just imidiatly place 4 towers down, market, and ranger guild. typically my start. Im like 4 or 5 Missions past Rat king now and that strat still works for me, placement sometimes means alot too. So if your imideatly ganked just hit restart and do same strat and try a better placement.

and what strategy is that? I have tried building away from the palace, or rush a single building to get a foothold. The end result is the same, the attack comes before anything is built.Yet, checking every guide from Google search has yielded me the same result, with not real reasons I can see as to why. THAT'S what is fustrating

I can't beat this mission either, tried at least 20 times, tried following the guides on google and gamefaqs, nothing works. I can get a couple buildings up if I build super far from my palace, but my palace is destroyed before I can get any money to place bounties and the units won't attack because the buildings are too far away. Any other strategy I try my buildings and peasents get destroyed before I can build anything.

Just do as he said. Only build one building at a time. So build tower no.1 ASAP, once it's build proceed to build no.2. (which should be covered by the recently build tower)

try going for the hall or lords plus some guardtowers to start off with a stronger hero with upgraded items

This mission really irked me as well. However, I found it extremely easy once I started.

Originally, I tried to just build one or two buildings (then all the peasants get them up and you can get heroes to fight off the rats, right?). I also tried building Guard Towers first, all to no avail.

Unfortunately, only a maximum of two peasants will work on a building at a time. Therefore, at the start of the mission, you can create three buildings at a time. By making a Warrior, Rogue, and Ranger guild all at the same time, the rats spread out their attacks enough for the buildings to be finished. Then I just pumped out 9 heroes quickly and they patrolled town slaughtering any rat people that popped out. When that happens, build a marketplace to get income, and then put a tower or two at every sewer entrance, and from there the mission is easy.

Well i don't know about Rat King but mission with dragon is idiotic and have nothing to do with strategy. Mission was smooth before latest patch, now only thing i manage to build is 2 guilds and one tower ( if im lucky and dragon won't destroy it) which is not enough becouse till that time i'm swarmed with 12 serpents. Still gonna try to finish this but after that patch that mission ruined whole game for me.

Basically you want to build south of the palace, as Rafnir will target a random structure, or unit for a certain length of time. After that he retreats back. If you have a couple guard towers to the south and east/west, typically the guards will end up wandering around where he'll eat one of them, then run back off.

If you rush Dwarf towers earlier on then later, the missions gets a ton easier. Also get the Hall of Lords up when you can to get our better heroes. You'll want atleast 1 warrior that's above 15. It allows him to tank the dragon much easier with a couple clerics behind him.

I just managed to survive first minutes yesterday. I builded 3 normal towers + rangers guild very close to each other, meanwhile i gathered money for dwarfs guild and from that point its easy.

Put a tower next to each sewer, Thats what I always do.

What the stupid idiots. put a tower, put a guilds, uhuh. But, that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ going to reach ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ chests first before to protect anything. So, you still thinking this is easy? If you lucky, and game AI dont ♥♥♥♥ you up, dont think that everyone can get the same way.
But im here to help you my friend. First you need to put the Wizard tower (it build itself), second you can put the Ranger guild. Buy all sorcerer you can, they'll give you the time to build the towers. They, a sweet smell of the victory.

I typically suck at RTS but managed to beat this game, including all expansions except for the last one (haven't tried it yet). Dunno why people get so upset at it.

There's a simple strat that allows you to beat every mission. I can't recall it right now, but it involves rushing some units and creating groups asap. A couple missions require you to build lots of towers (I remember a nasty dragon mission, and another one where you have to take down two other guilds that keep attacking you).

Rogues are a good unit to begin with. Decent damage, dirt cheap and can be upgraded with very useful abilities (stun, poison etc). I nearly always use them to start with. Don't worry about losing them, they are cheap to resurrect and after about lvl 6 will rarely die except against mobs or very strong opponents as they tend to run away.

I can't remember the rat king mission well but build towers near the sewers and upgrade them, that should deal with the problem for the most part then just simply go around the map destroying whatever else. When it comes to getting the trap and finally killing him, make sure you have your heroes in groups and each group has a cleric. Research the heal spell at the cleric guild, save up a few thousand then put a large bounty on the rat king to ensure all your heroes attack him.
