How to cross-play between steam and epic: A guide and some info
There seems to be a lot of confusion about this, so I am going to try to make a post that explains this issue in detail.

Despite the recent patch that officially removed Overcooked 2 crossplay between steam and epic users, steam users CAN still do crossplay with epic players. However, there is something you need to do first that is not explained.

In your steam library, right-click on Overcooked 2, select "properties" and then "betas" and choose the "crossplay branch" option. Once downloaded, this will allow steam users to play crossplay with epic users.

Note that the download is a few GB, so it could take awhile depending on your internet speed.

Also note that the steam-crossplay-branch and normal steam Overcooked 2 games are not compatible. This means, for example, that if you have the steam-crossplay-branch of Overcooked 2 and your friend has the normal Overcooked 2, you will not be able to play together unless you revert to the normal Overcooked 2 or your friend also downloads the steam-crossplay-branch.

Changing back and forth between the normal Overcooked 2 and the steam crossplay branch of Overcooked 2 does not delete your story mode progress or accumulated stars.

Note that some levels (notably 6-5 on the original campaign) are currently buggy when using the steam crossplay version.

if after changing into the beta version, how do we invite epic users into steam when playing overcooked 2?

You have to invite them using their full T17 nickname (including the # and number at the end). You can find out their T17 handle by having them open the invite menu.

Thank you so much! This worked for me :)

The version on Steam doesn't have a T17 nickname. I can't link my Epic Games Overcooked 2 to Steam. I had to buy it on Steam again. Please help if anyone knows? Technically the cross platform game play doesn't work anymore between Epic Games and Steam.

Hi, brancher,

Thanks for getting in touch with us.

To use the cross-platform feature on Steam, you need to use the Cross-platform beta branch.
The T17 friend's list will not show on the normal version of the game.
  1. Please right-click the game in your library
  2. Go to properties
  3. Go to the 'betas' tab
  4. Using the drop-down, choose the cross-play branch.
  5. Allow this to download.
Load the game and invite/accept an invite from Epic players.

We hope this helps!

I did all the steps but at the time of inviting, the screen stays on loading and "checking venus online privileges" appears. Did I do something wrong? I dont know what to do :( Also the T7 list doesnt appears me.

Hi Venus,

Sorry to hear you're having this issue.

Are you playing on Windows or Mac?
Are you using the crossplay branch?
What platform are your friends on?
Is this when you accept a friend request? Are you able to send them, and what happens if they accept?
Are you able to play versus modes online?

Get back to us when you can.

Hi! I have the same problem as venus. When I click on Invite Friends, a loading screen with the text “Checking Pandamos online privileges…” appear and nothing else happens. It doesn't finish loading nor does it let me leave that screen (I have to force quit).

Answering the questions, I am playing on Mac and I downloaded the crossplay branch. My friend is on PlayStation 5, but the loading screen appears before I get to send any request or link. I'm not able to send any friend request nor am I able to play versus online public (the same loading screen from before shows up, the one that says “Checking Pandamos online privileges…”).

What should I do?
Thanks in advance!

Hi both,

Pandamos -

Unfortunately, Overcooked! 2 does not have cross-platform features between PC/MAC and PS5. Overcooked! All You Can Eat has full cross-platform features, if you both own this game you can then play together between Steam and PS5.

venus -

Thanks for your reply!

Unfortunately, this is a current issue between MAC Steam and Epic.
The team is currently investigating this and we hope for a fix as soon as possible.

In the meantime, you should be able to play with other Steam players on MAC or Windows.
You may also try using something such as BootCamp as an example to use Windows on your MAC.

Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience and support!

Regards,
Team17 Support
