Sorry to hear you're having this issue.
Do any of you get any error messages at all? If so, what are these?
Please make sure that your and your friend profiles are Public or Friends Only.
Another thing that you may want to try is to run the game and Steam client as an administrator:
- Launch Steam
- From the Library section, right-click on Overcooked! 2 and select Properties from the menu.
- Select the Local files tab and click the Browse local files… button.
- Right-click on the Overcooked2.exe file
- Choose Properties
- Navigate to the Compatibility tab
- Check the box for Run this program as an administrator
- Attempt the run the game
If that doesn't help then please do the same for your Steam client:- Go to your Program Files (x86)\Steam folder
- Right-click Steam.exe select properties
- Select the compatibility tab and click run as admin
- Launch Steam and Overcooked! 2 and try to invite your friend.
It would be worth having your friends do the same as well.Get back to us when you can.

Can you confirm if you are playing with a Mac?
Regards,
Team17 Support
Thanks for your reply.
Are you on MAC or Windows?
Have you tried joining your friend instead to play?
Are you able to play using Steam remote play together?
Get back to us when you can.

As for remote play I can play with my friend if they host, but I can not host a remote play session.
Other things I've noticed recently since I've started playing Overcooked with friends again is that when I open my friends list I no longer have the option to send an invite to a game. Instead I only have the option to send out a remote play instead.
Thanks for your reply.
Can you please make sure that your Steam is not offline and is set online?
Please also make sure you're not showing offline on your friend's list as well.
You can also try removing and re-adding your friend and testing the game.
So we can ensure you have the best connection, can you please follow the steps in the links below, and reach out to your ISP to open your NAT.
Troubleshooting Network Connectivity
Clear download cache
Flush your DNS Cache[www.whatsmydns.net]
Can you please ensure your NAT (Network Address Translation) is set to Open or Moderate? You will need to contact your ISP or router manufacturer for information on how to perform these steps.
If you are still experiencing connection issues after performing the steps in the links above and opening your NAT. Can you please tell us the following information?
- What country are you currently living in?
- Steam Download Region (Steam Settings, Downloads)
- What is your internet speed? Internet Speed Test
- Are you using a VPN?
- What is your NAT set to?
We look forward to hearing back from you.Regards,

Its 2024, open nat should never be the answer anymore. You developers need to either start fighting ISP's to switch to dual stack or IPV6. Or you yourselfs need to test and code your games to work on cgnat. I can tell you right now we still be on cgnat for at least another 20 years. so If the gaming industry doesnt want to take a big hit you developers better start fighting ISP's because we both know they have too much power. Well anyway I guess ill never be playing your game unless you make it were it can work on cgnat cause Ill be on that my whole life probably.
Crazyhuntaholic -
Are you experiencing the same issue as the OP?
Have you gone through any of the steps provided above in the post you quoted at all?
Can you also please use the below steps to share any screenshots of any error messages you may receive?
Jarell Kuaysah -
Can you please confirm for us whether you receive any error messages or codes when the 4th person tries to join?
If so can you please share them with us as a screenshot?
To take a screenshot, please make sure, that you have Steam Overlay enabled in your game
- Go to Steam -> Settings.
- Click the In-Game tab.
- Check "Enable Steam Overlay while in-game"
- Go to Library.
- Right-click on the game title and select Properties.
- Under the General tab also make sure "Enable Steam Overlay while in-game" is checked.
In the game, press F12 to take a screenshot. Then press Shift+Tab to bring up the Steam overlay, and Upload your screenshot, make it public. Then simply include the URL of your screenshot on the forum (it should look something like "http...sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=...")Get back to us when you can.
