Music cutting out with moving platforms
Been having an odd bug recently, when on levels with either controllable platforms or with fast moving trains (in mine levels), the soundtrack cuts out when the platforms are being moved/trains moving across the level.

It's really choppy and detrimental to the gameplay, anybody else come across this bug?

Greetings Psycho,

Sorry to hear that this is happening - can you please check if your game installation has any corrupted files? To do this:
  1. Right-click on the game in your Steam Library, choose Properties, switch to the Local Files tab and press Verify integrity of game files...
  2. Attempt to run the game to see if the issue is resolved

Hey, sorry to revive this dead thread, but I'm also having this problem. I verified integrity of files, and it didn't fix it. Moving platforms, especially river ones, causes the music to just completely cut out and all I can here is the rumbling of platforms moving. It's a little disorienting and not helpful when trying to record the game since I rely on computer audio

Greetings FanaticMarioMan,

Sorry to hear that this is happening and thank you for the video - would it be possible to see your system information so that we can try to help? To do this:
  1. Hold down the Windows Key and press R, the Run dialogue should appear > Type dxdiag in the available text field > Click OK
  2. Click Save All Information > Save the file DxDiag.txt to your Desktop so it is easy to find
  3. Open the .txt file, copy all the contents > Paste all the contents to a free text hosting service such as http://justpaste.it, http://textuploader.com or http://freetexthost.com
  4. Copy the link to your post

Just a quick note, I tried doing a fresh install on the game today as well, but that didn't fix the issue either. Still had copy music that cuts out when moving platforms.

Hi FanaticMarioMan,

Thanks for sharing that with us.

Please check for pending updates for your system via the steps below:
  1. Select the Start button
  2. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update
  3. Select Check for updates
  4. Install any updates that are shown
  5. Once this is done, test the game
We also notice that your Nvidia graphics drivers are out of date, so let's update these:
https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/170312/en-us

Can you also please make sure that your audio drivers are up to date by using the following link:
https://www.avast.com/c-how-to-update-audio-drivers#topic-3

Then test the game again and get back to us if the issue still continues!

Hi Team17,

I downloaded the Nvidia drivers and the GeForce experience which did a lot of updates at once, and I'm pretty sure updated what it needed to. Then I also went into device manager to update audio drivers. None of them said they needed updating, so I went to the specific product page for my Lenovo laptop to see if there were any audio driver updates, but it didn't find any either.

Unfortunately, that didn't seem to work. It still cuts out when moving lever controlled objects.

I've attached my updated information in case I did something wrong and you can let me know, I'll try to update things again.

If it's any help, the output device I usually use for my headphones is the Headphones (Realtek (R) Audio), so I focused on trying to update that, but no updates were found.

***

Above is what I wrote immediately after trying the updates. But then I had some thoughts.

Perhaps the issue is output specific? I hadn't tried it on any other output. So I unplugged my headphones and tested the game using the speakers [Speakers (Realtek (R) Audio) device. No issues! Sound played perfect. So then I tried with a different set of headphone. Same issues. I also tried with my headphones on Bluetooth and not wired. Same issues. However, I also remember that when I tried with the speakers, I changed the in game settings to make the music louder. So I tried changing the game settings back to what I had

Same issue again! On the speakers that had previously worked! So then I plugged in my headphones and adjusted the game settings to be different. No issues!

It turns out the issue is with the game settings themselves. I can only replicate the problem if I have both Sound and SFX set to 4 bars of audio. I tried several other combinations and they all played fine on all devices. It is just the combination of 4 bars on each that causes this weird audio bug.

I guess you can consider this issue resolved as I can just change my audio settings, but you may want to look into why specifically 4 bars on each audio setting causes this weird issue.

Thanks for your help!

Update: Tested some more, the issue actually happen at any point if the SFX volume is equal to or greater than the music volume.

Potentially there's still an issue here, so let me know if I should try anything else.

Another update, had my friends test with the same audio settings as me, and they didn't have any issues no matter what. So it's still a problem with my computer, but also affected by game settings as well.

I'll take whatever advice you have from here.

Hi FanaticMarioMan,

Thanks for your reply.

We're glad to hear that you've managed to find a resolution.

It does seem to be an isolated issue with your set-up, so unfortunately we're unsure what we could suggest that would help.

You could try the following:

To reveal any possible issues with your Windows system, we would like to recommend that you please attempt the following actions:
  1. Open the Windows Start Menu
  2. Type “cmd”
  3. Right-click on Command Prompt > Run as administrator
  4. Type “sfc /scannow” without the quotes
  5. Press Enter
If the process has revealed/resolved and issues, please attempt to run the game again
Respond with the results

You can also follow the steps in the link to perform a clean boot[support.microsoft.com].
A clean boot is being used to start your Windows device using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs.

Windows 10
  1. Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open the Task Manager.
  2. Click More Details.
  3. Select the Startup tab.
  4. Right-click on each item and select Disable.
  5. On the Services tab click to select the Hide all Microsoft services checkbox, and then tap or click Disable all.
  6. Restart the computer.
Once this is done please launch the game to see if the issue still continues.
To re-enable your start-up programs:
  1. Follow the steps above again but at steps 3 and 5 right-click and enable all of your programs and services again.
  2. Then click Apply and restart your computer.
We hope that helps.

Regards,
Team17 Support.

I ran into the same issue, but at least on my system it seems that enabling VSync fixed the problem. It may be that the lack of FPS cap when not using VSync causes performance issues with certain levels.

I confirm the same issue on linux on moving levers. Background Music becomes choppy or stops playing. Enabling v-sync (as described above) fixes the issue. Don't know whether it's related to performance issue (runnig the game on nvme 4.0 , ryzen 5 3600, 32 gb ram, rtx 3090). Thx
PS pls I would love to have moving out for linux <3 Me and my friends adore your games.

After reading this thread both my BGM and SF were max but I noticed my res wasnt correct for my display so I switched graphics to Max, res to 4k, lowered BGM but 1 bar, and clicked VSync and the issue is gone. Definitely play with in game settings to fix the issue.
