PS. Playing on the normal branch.
I also tried to disconnect the controller wirelessly on bluetooth settings and booting up the controller when the game opens, and still no progress.
The controller seems to be working fine with other games and while scrolling through Steam itself. However, when I launch the game, it fails to identify the "X" button to continue or even start the game because it doesn't seem to be connected. Currently, I'm running macOS Sonoma 14.3.1. Can you please assist me in resolving this issue?
Thanks for getting in touch.
Sorry to see that you have encountered some issues with your controllers while playing Overcooked! 2.
As mentioned, this is a known issue with both 8bitdo and PlayStation controllers on Mac at present and something the team are looking into. I have logged your reports with the team who continue to investigate the issue.
jennkoga - if you find that you are unable to get past the press x to continue screen or start the game, it may be due to the current issue with Sonoma and you may need to switch across to the crossplay branch as a temporary solution. Unfortunately, you may find you have some issues with your PlayStation controller on this branch also but you should be able to get past the X to continue screen and launch the game using keyboard and mouse.
To install this version, please try the following steps:
- Launch your Steam client
- Right-click on Overcooked! 2 in your Library
- Select Properties
- Select the Beta tab from the left-hand panel
- Next to Beta Participation, there will be a drop-down menu > select the Crossplay branch from here
- This will now install on your Mac
Once this has been installed, reboot the game and see if the issue persists. If you would like to play online with friends following this, they will need to follow the above steps and join the Crossplay branch.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding in the meantime.

Unfortunately, this still does not work for me. Can you please provide more details? On the Beta tab, I selected `crossplay_branch - Branch for crossplay with EGS`. When I get into the game, it still does not recognize my controller
This is using a Xbox Series X controller over bluetooth on a M1 Max MacBook Pro running the latest MacOS; Sonoma 14.4.1 (23E224).
Regular version shows me an non-interactive screen with a "space bar/X to continue" screen.
Running in big picture mode btw.
After installing the crossplay beta version at least the screen displays a "space bar/A to continue"-screen. "A" being for my P1 connected Switch pro controller. This is still non-interactive tho, only the space bar on the key board lets me proceed from that screen.
My setup works for any other game I've tried.
Hope you manage to come up with a fix, I can see ppl have been asking for this for years
Best regards
Same situation here on M2. I tried crossplay beta version and two controllers - Switch Pro and Xbox X, both bluetooth and wired, but they all didn't work. Settings have been set as the response before.
Hope you can offer another available solution.
Cheers
Why sell this game for MAC if full controller support is missing?
can i check if X box one S can work?
I have tried both default and cross patch
the only button that responded in game was the xbox on button ....
Thank you all for sharing your report with us we greatly appreciate it.
All of the information we could gather from this an other discussions were forwarded to our proper team, rest assured we are working on trying to solve this problem with the Xbox Controllers on Mac.
We're unable to give any timeframe on how long this may take to resolve, however, we hope for a fix as soon as possible.
Our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause in the meantime.
Thank you for your patience in this matter.
