Can't do a local + online game?
I bought the game a few days ago and me and my brother have enjoyed it a lot. We were looing forward to playing online together against other players on the same machine, but it turns out on PC you can't have more than one local player at a time while playing multipalyer.

I expected this new release of overcooked to have more online stuff available, so is there any intention of adding local + online functionality so more people like me and my brother will paly this game?

Hello PogoTigger,

We understand this is frustrating. We have more information on the limitations to online play on our FAQ here: https://www.team17.com/overcooked-2-faq/overcooked-2/

How many players does Overcooked! 2 support?
Overcooked! 2 supports up to four players in either local or online play. On Nintendo Switch, we also support wireless multiplayer for up to four players.

With up to three local players sharing a console it is then possible to also play with other players online. When two or three players are in the game locally, online friends can search for and join the game, or other players can join online through matchmaking.

Are there any limitations to online play?
Several configurations of online players are possible but, due to limitations around the online system’s ability to merge parties, the game does not currently support 2+2 online – that’s two players on one console and two on another. This is something we would have liked to have been ready for launch but is a complicated undertaking and, as such, will take much longer to be ready. Please look out for a post-launch update to introduce this feature at a later date.

Can I team up with random players, or do I need to add people to my friends list?
You can use the in-game lobby/matchmaking system to find other players in the Arcade and Versus modes. For the story/campaign mode – you will need to invite players from your friends list to play together.

We are working on updates in the future.

Keep checking our channels for announcements.

I see some of the limitations of the systems the game has tto deal with, and thank you for the response, but I can't find anywhere on your FAQ that mentions PC compatability with online play. Specifically here on Steam it appears you can't use the online matchmaking service to find players and instead players like me would have to rely on inviting other users - a method that has kinda turned off my brother from the game. I am unsure if your team is aware of the limitations of online matchmaking for PC players, or it is simply information that was overlooked in FAQ. Either way, I hope the configuration of online play goes smoothly!
