(not urgent) Buffalo SNES Controller for Overcooked 2

Steam recognizes my Buffalo USB SNES Controller as a "generic controller"
In Big Pic Mode, Overcooked 2 does not see it

I posted this in discussions:
anyone have Buffalo USB SNES controllers working for Overcooked 2?

pretty niche :) but always worth asking

1. Steam sees the controller but in Big Picture mode, Overcooked 2 does not -it only offers the keyboard controls icon in the add players box. Am I missing something that would force the game to see the controller?

2. My workaround is to bind the Buffalo to the keyboard (Player 2 split keyboard keys) but Right Alt will not bind (I'm on Mac OSX High Sierra 10.13). My Mac keyboard does not look like the keyboard diagram in the binding menu.

just wondering if I'm missing something. I enjoy the tinkering. I consider it one of Kevin's secret challenges

We are sorry to hear that you're having issues with you Buffalo controller in Overcooked! 2.

Unfortunately, the controller is not fully supported by Steam, so it may cause some troubles.

However it looks like some user on the Steam forum has found a workaround. Could you please try these steps and let us know if they work for you as well?

iBuffalo SNES controller not detected

I have an iBuffalo SNES controller that works with other games on Steam on my Mac, but doesn't seem to work with Overcooked 2.

I did go into the Steam settings, and I made sure that Generic Gamepad Support is enabled, and that it is registered as a controller. The controller works to control all the menus in Big Picture Mode, and I can use the controller just fine in other games. However, whenever I open Overcooked 2 (either in regular mode, or in Big Picture Mode), I am unable to use the controller. It prompts me to "Press X / space to continue", and none of the buttons on the controller let me continue. I even hit space bar, which lets me in, and I can't navigate any of the menus.
