We are sorry that you can't connect the controllers.
Are you able to connect the controllers with a wired connection?
What is the exact name of your controller and who is the manufacturer? If we know this we can try more steps to get the controller to work for you.
Can you please ensure you have the latest drivers for your controller?
1. Click on the Apple in the upper left corner of the screen
2. Select "Software Update..."
3. Any updates available will be listed and able to be downloaded or you will be told your software is up to date

My controllers are PS4 - Official Sony Manufactured controllers - one white and one blue
My computer is up to date on its updates, I checked just in case.
I never had issues before till this recent update, I could easily connect both controllers via bluetooth before and add a player and done! I tried looking in settings... etc connecting dis connecting bluetooth, wire etc and it won't connect both. It will just split the controller. :(
Lets set the controllers up vis Bluetooth.
Open System Preferences (Apple menu > System Preferences).
Click Bluetooth.
Put the PS4 controller in Discovery Mode by holding down the PlayStation button and Share button at the same time.
The light on the front of the controller will flash quickly, and Wireless Controller will appear in the Bluetooth window. Click Pair.
The device will now say connected,
Open Steam and Open Steam Settings,
General Controller Settings
Make sure the controller is detected (You may have to have both plugged in if you can)
Tick PlayStation Configuration Support.
Removing the Bluetooth driver:
1. Turn Bluetooth off from Preferences
2. From your HDD, navigate to Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist
3. Drag that file to the trash & empty the trash
4. Restart your machine
Please let us know if this works for you. You may have to boot the game in Big Picture mode.
